Which Fantom do you own?
Re: Which Fantom do you own?
Hi Synthia,
I still have my Fantom S which I use to drive my V-synth XT. However, with Korg's new M3-M due out shortly, that could change.
Cheers,
Eric

When I'm rich I'll get an X8 for my home studio and use the X7 just for gigging.
X7 All the way!!!

Re: Which Fantom do you own?
My "Fantom" is Juno-G with SRX-98. I wish only to not have crippled sequencer...
(and perhaps a second SRX slot)
There are starting cheap second hand F-Xes to show. Perhaps I'll get one.

Re: Which Fantom do you own?
Fantom X8, Triton Classic and a Yamaha CS6R... just for the little analog sounds. I want to have a expansionboard for the CS6R, there seems to be an exp.board the same as the AN1X.
Miditemp MP88 multistation, Roland SC880... an old module but still doing his job perfectly....
Has anyone interesting info about the X8... To save performances (more then 128)?
oh yes, and of course my Allen & heath GR05 1HE analog zone mixer to combine these 3 (4 is also possible) instruments and just send 2 stereo jacks to the FOH.
This should use every synthman to have a compact flightcase with modules etc... by sending it true the GR05 you don't need a larger mixer...

X6....Used to have an Xa which i really liked and learnt a lot of stuff on. Wanted the X6 though for the audio tracks and more expansion boards
Re: Which Fantom do you own?
X6 (deal included 4 SRX's)
...came with John Lord Organs + Analogue sounds,........and I chose Ultimate keys and Orchestra SRX's.
Then decided to add a few extras!
+ 512dimm
+ 2 CF cards
+ Roland V stand
+ Gatorcase on wheels
All in all very pleased with this lot, and also this forum

Proud owner of Fantom-S since 2003
Yeah, I know its a little dated by today's standards. Especially with the upcoming release of the Fantom-G. But there are a still lot of quality sounds and features in this board. The only real limitation is your own creativity. My S is fully expanded with Supreme Dance, Complete Orchestra, World Collection, and Ultimate Keys. Also, Planet X,V, and F. Whaddup Artemiy!?!

Re: Which Fantom do you own?
I own a Fantom XR, which shares the rack with a Roland XV3080 and Kurz K2000RS. In the Fantom are the Ultimate Keys SRX 7 and Complete Piano SRX 11 cards, and the XV has a couple of symphonic JV cards.
I like the sound of these Roland synths, but I tend to use only presets due to the lack of decent program editor software. For this reason, I wouldn't recommend a Roland rack unit to anyone who programs their own sounds.

Fantom S88 with SRX-1
Re: Which Fantom do you own?
I've just got my Roland X8 today. No SRX cards yet - I wanted first to hear the beast then to supplement the weak spots with the appropriate cards (I was thinking about the SRX 12 and the Ultimate Strings) - to my surprise I was quite pleased about the default rompled sounds.
The piano patches are somewhat weak in the middle section - but not THAT much to require a SRX card (although I might get one for the Steinway sound of the SRX 12) while the strings sound very convincing.
The solo string instruments could benefit of more character (which would imply the SRX "symphonic strings") but that's pretty much all of my critique.
Since I'm not fond of brass instruments, guitars or electromechanical emulations, I cannot give my 2 cents about them. I may very well hate the "idea" of those instruments, not the sound associated with.
I think the "World Collection" and "Studio SRX" are some of the cards which will best supplement the internal ROM, although I might be biased. It's still very early to jump on conclusions about this very complex instrument.
