AKAI MPC5000! that means Roland will have a new Groovebox!?
I won't sell my MC-909 ever! but I'm so waiting for the next groovebox workstation!!
Re: AKAI MPC5000! that means Roland will have a new Grooveb
Roland had a virtual analog synth in the MV-8000. Now with the 8800, they have a large color screen, lots of analog modeled effects and a few other things that the MPC-5000 still doesn't have. However, I do believe they are not competitors, these are like BMW and Mercedes - those who buy one would not likely ever buy another.

Re: AKAI MPC5000! that means Roland will have a new Grooveb
yes the MV has a virtual analog synth, but the MPC5K has an actual analog synth. not virtual. everyone has a preference though. still Roland to the end, but doesn't mean I won't invest in other good pieces of hardware. i'm still waiting for a new AX-7
Re: AKAI MPC5000! that means Roland will have a new Grooveb
Please read the specs again, it's a virtual analog synth. And think yourself: 22 voice analog synth, do you know how much space this would take? Something at least the size of 10 MPC's, and it would cost 5 times the price at least. You need to know the modern technology a little more, my friend

Re: AKAI MPC5000! that means Roland will have a new Grooveb
Correct me if im wrong the mv8800 also just has an VA Bass Synth. But back to the topic - Any ideas if there will be an new Groovebox soon, i really love my 808 but i want something like the 909 so badly. Beside that i think the MPC5000 would be also a nice Groovebox.

AKAI !!! "Did you not learn from Roland Mistake, Hint, Hint"!!!
Why go backward when you can go forward??? You guys Started the MPC Work Station Idea?? And Roland Started the GROOVE BOXES Idea with SYNTH & DRUMS SAMPLE SOUNDS into one unit for DJay's, Producer's & ReMixer's. STOP WITH THE SHORT CUTS !!!
The ROLAND MV-8800 still is Putting the presure on AKAI... Since 2002 with the Roland MV-8000!
Sorry the AKAI MPC-5000 looks nice but its a !!!DUNCE!!! at this point with people using there Roland MC-909 GROOVE BOX with there LAPTOP, PC & MAC..... And for the price on the Akai get a Laptop or the Roland MV-8800 !
AKAI needs to get with the PROGRAM... the MPC-5000 Should of come out in 2002. But it did not. This unit way to late to come out. I still think also for the price - the AKAI MPC-2500 is still better. And the Akai MPC-4000 PLUS still good Machine.

Akai only 64 tracks, Roland has 136 tracks, Akai has 49 effects Roland has 31, but the Roland also has Templates for Mixdown Mode and Mastering. Akai Pad bank has 4 Roland Has 6, shall I go on? Pound for Pound Roland MV-8000 and Roland MV-8800 is still an Akai on Steroids !!!!

The MPC5000 has a lot of pluses actually.
The workflow looks really nice.
Onboard VA synth doesn't use any of the effect DSP like MV's bass synth does. Plus, I believe the synth is based on Alesis VAs, so it's fairly deep with 20 notes polyphony.
Insane amounts of RAM aren't really necessary, since it can stream multi track audio from the hard drive.
Way more effects....4 stereo busses with 2 stereo effects per buss plus Master effect, more flexible routing (route effects busses to mix, or any of the 1-8 outputs), and get this.....dedicated DSP chip for effects with CPU meter.
More MIDI tracks and more midi outputs. The PDF manual is online and is worth a look.
Thing ain't cheap though.

Re: AKAI MPC5000! that means Roland will have a new Grooveb
I still love the 909. I don't own one, but I have messed with it several times. I still wish the Fantom would incorporate the turntable emulation, but I understand that they are very different machines with very different purposes. I also love the 8800. One of Akai's main new features on the 5000 is STEREO SAMPLING! As far as I'm concerned, the 5000 is an answer to the 8000. They haven't the ability to answer the 8800. Just my opinion, not trying to step on anyones toes. I think most people just get comfortable with thier own working environment and nothing can break them from that. I'm the same way. I started with a Roland S-550 and stuck with it for years. There was a long period where Roland seemed to have dropped out of the sampling workstation game. Thank god they came back strong! Right now they are advertising the Fantom G as the first workstation to use a mouse, but the S-50 and 550 had this back in 1988! What I'm trying to say is that its all ebb and flow. Akai had a major lead for a long time, but a lot of the roland fans didn't like the differences. Now Roland seems to have a clear advantage, but people are use to their working environment and don't want to change. I think, as Roland fans, we should consider ourselves lucky.

Re: AKAI MPC5000! that means Roland will have a new Grooveb
I'd sure in hell would like to know how the mc909 gets 136 MIDI tracks with only 1 MIDI output.
the MPC5000 comes standard with 4 MIDI Outs & 2 MIDI ins.
the so call scaled back sh*t everyone is talking about is done on purpose... because akai is going back to their roots. A PHRASE SAMPLER.. not a full fledge sampler.
the design is based off of Roger Linn's MPC3000le but with added (for todays standards) UPDATED AMENITIES... by the way, the VA Synth on the MPC5000 is the TRUTH.... akai's problem is that Mike Hosker is not a good Product Specialist (salesman) like roland's mike acosta..
Also, akai is returning to that simplicity that they were famous for. The simpler the equipment is to use the faster the workflow.... I can't wait. I've already preordered mine.

Re: AKAI MPC5000! that means Roland will have a new Grooveb
This isn't as big an issue as one would think. First of all, MPC users aren't the type to load in large multisampled patches from CD-ROMs, whereas MV users will, considering the sampling engine's based on the S-700 series.what about the memory???...my god....akai have a problem with your new mpc-5000...
Secondly, the MPC5000 records its audio tracks directly to disk, which means that 192MB doesn't get eaten up by linear vocal or guitar parts.
But as it is with anything else, 192MB appears way less on paper, so people will knock it. Akai should've upped the RAM to 512MB just to shut Roland users up.

I know you guys wil hate me now
but ive ordered a 5000. Even though i love Roland products - i think the 5000 fits more to my needs. For me its all about jammin live and the focus of the mpc is more live than with the mv8800.
