Having troubles connecting V-Synth GT to Mac...
Im trying to connect my v-synth to my iMac so I can transfer files between the two of them, but for some reason whenever I go to Utilities and I press the screen to connect, nothing happens. Worse off, whenever I click exit to get out, the synth gets stuck and Im forced to turn it off and back on again.
Im following exactly what the manual says to do with macs and I still have no idea whats wrong. Could it be that the v-synth isn't compatible with the new Leopard OS?

Re: Having troubles connecting V-Synth GT to Mac...
With my GT, I was not able to connect it via a USB 1.1 port which is on the Apple keyboard. All worked fine when I connected it to USB 2.0 port on the back of my iMac.
Re: Having troubles connecting V-Synth GT to Mac...
I am having the exact same problem when I try connecting my V-Synth GT to my MacBook running Tiger. So it's not just a case of Leopard incompatibility.
Seems the only way for me to transfer files is to use a USB memory stick, which is a bit of an annoyance. This along with some other nags and bugs, especially the lack of a proper wave file import function, kinda almost makes me wanna sell the damned thing and get something else instead. I have no patience for equipment that doesn't work properly these days.
It's a shame because otherwise it's a pretty wonderful and unique instrument with lots of potential. Let's hope for some OS updates from Roland.

Thats incredibly disappointing.....
Artemio, what have you done with your v-synth and mac so far? how did you get it to work well?
I installed the drivers, the computer recognizes it no problem, but when I try to transfer files, nothing.
Also just a quick beginner question, can I record audio directly from the v-synth to my computer (to record a song per say) using only the usb cable or do I need an audio interface anyway?

Yes, having no easy means to import files is a strange omission, but we all hope for a software update. Keeping in mind how well Roland supported the original V, I think we will get one one day.

Same issue here!
Tried it with my macbook, no luck..tried with my macmini, no luck (tried verything else aswell, swapping USB cabel, connecting in diffrent orders, etc etc..)
Bottom line.. I have no way of importing samples!
(unless i sample them via audio in a la 1989)

Re: Having troubles connecting V-Synth GT to Mac...
Well Roland also included a shared tone pool for the GT which is also very 80's - so perhaps they thought to make other things on the GT reminiscent of the 80's also, and then charge a fortune for it ;¬)

Guys Guys come down-
Here's what I suggest:
Go out and get a - usb"Smart Reader Writer" and use a "Flash" drive to imort these sounds. Connect it too you computer, however you will the current driver installed, anyways, once you have this connection,,, all is well. It worked for me
The bottom line is you have to always stay ontop of the tech these days.
Thanks,
Savnac

Re: Having troubles connecting V-Synth GT to Mac...
Savnac, the GT uses USB flash drives directly, no need for any kind of flash cards. I even used an old USB 1.1 card reader with it!

Artemio-
Ok so there's 2 solutions for these guys then, mine and what you are saying.
The bottom line is Max S and Stevie is freaking out. So I though to come him down, by explaining to him how to solve his problem.

Re: Having troubles connecting V-Synth GT to Mac...
Name your samples 001 Sample.wav, 002 Sample.wav and so on, and put them in the "Wave" folder of your project. The GT will load them into the project, you will only need to encode them so they become elastic.
Re: Having troubles connecting V-Synth GT to Mac...
Hey guys-
Oh I am sorry I was speaking of my V-Synth version 2. So did they make it much harder for the GT version? Man I was wondering what things has changed from the two version.
Is it worth me trading in my version for the new one or should I just keep the old one.
Artemio- what do you know about the Vari-Phraseing function on the unit. There's a voice the sais,"Omniyah-sooo-thedaaaa-podusetho-tee-leeveee"
How can I do one of my very own, can you point me in that direction?
Max. S - so you have the GT huh, so how do you compare it too the version 2?

Savnac:
Well, I currently have both the V 2.0 and GT and am not sure if I'll be able to keep both - my home doesn't have much space, I already sold two pieces of gear this year
As about whether to upgrade - if you need a vocoder, then the GT will be great for you. Otherwise the sound engine is identical, except you get two synth parts instead of one. So it depends on your needs.
Regarding VariPhrase, you can turn any audio into a waveform. See the Welcome to Elastic Audio article. Also, check out the V-Synth TweakBook.
