An Alternate Patch Editor for Fantom X ?

Post by kwgmatthies »

The Fantom Editor is awful. On has to get within a 4x4 pixel square to select/deselect a voice, and these popup menus are driving me nuts! For each sample change, I have to navigate through 3 layers of popups.

I could go on, but those of you who are familiar with the editor already know its limitations. It's always true that you get what you pay for. Yamaha's free editors aren't worth the price, either.

Is there another editor available from a commercial publisher, like SoundTower, or even a public domain editor available?

I've googled, but no luck so far. I wonder why SoundTower hasn't ported their XV editor?

Any help one could offer will be appreciated. Thanks.

i'd pay $ for an editor, heck, $$ for an update to sounddiver. features I miss are patch compare, instantly selecting a patch from the library to demo, the ease of making performance banks and adding categories. shame on apple for suffocating the sounddiver product for pc & mac.

Amen, you said it!!

The only thing at sound tower appears to be for the fantom S76.

They're still playing catch-up?

I'm still poking around, looking for something.

If I find anything, I'll share the info.

I think I'll try to get on to SoundTower tomorrow, and perhaps I can learn if anything is in the works for Fantom. They've certainly had enuf time, right? However, if their XV sales weren't spectacular, then they may not be interested.

sound tower may not have been impressed by sales of previous products, but with the Fantom S and Fantom X, Roland is their biggest competitor. i'd be happy with a SoundTower product, less so with an update to Motu Unisyn

Hey, SoundQuest has a new Fantom-S editor for MIDIQuest. I would like to try reinstalling this, but there was an issue with all 3 of the pc's I'd previously installed the software on, which KILLED the pc outright. Wonder if it would run from inside Virtual PC, or if they have an update that would prevent the blowup whereby Windows XP cannot boot? I just cannot risk my laptop or studio PC to another XP failure.

I have always used Midi Quest from Sound Quest - But they have no Fantom X instrument files yet. I asked them a few months ago and assured me the X was "on the list" and they will notify me when it's released. I'll pass that on then. In the meantime I'll be looking to the Plex.

midiquest told me yesterday that they've got the fantom x on their high priority list, which means march/april 2008. there's an even higher priority for a new product they're working on but weren't allowed to talk about.

Midi Quest for Fantom-XR MIA?

Post by dswtan »

Anyone know what happened to Fantom X for Midi Quest? I actually need for XR. SoundQuest have FA-76 and S, but X let alone G is just missing.

It's the only synth I have that they don't support. It's put me off buying their product!

Midi Quest XL supports instrument creation. I wonder how hard it is to make a .sqz file...

From the help file: "Sound Quest doesn't claim that creating instrument support is easy. If fact it can be quite difficult. The information provided by the manufactures is often incomplete and occasionally incorrect. Additionally, the information is not provided in a standardized format. The layout of the SysX information is different for every company and often the documents vary between instruments from the same company. Reading SysX documentation is almost an art form in itself. With that said, we are ready to proceed."

Hmmm. Has anyone been down this route I wonder?
