Transfering songs from Fantom to DAW for Mixing

Post by 1800 »

If I make songs in hte Fantom x6 sequencer is there a way to transfer or convert them to files that will load in a DAW such as Cubase for the purpose of mixing and adding vocals...

If I'm correct .SVQ files aren't recognized.

The only solution I have thus far is to record each track as audio with some external software or device other than the fantom....and import them into the Daw and try to sync them..which for me is impossible.

Any suggestions...Thanks

You can save your midi tracks as standard midi files and export your audio tracks via card. Both no problem at all.

Also, I think you can play the song in the fantom and record all the midi info into your DAW and then just make sure you have that svq performance up and ready when using it from your DAW.

I'm fairly rusty on this as I haven't done anything like that for over a year.

To my understanding the fantom can only save sequences as .SVQ files.....

Are .SVQ files Midi files?

Because Cubase SE won't recognize SVQ files for importing...Unless it is just because Cubase Se is old software.

I figured out how to Sync the Fantom with Cubase Se...
This may help someone else:

On the Fantom:
*System Menu
*Sync/Tempo - set Sync Mode to "SLAVE-MIDI"

*Sytem Menu
*Sound - set Local Switch Off

*Sytem Menu
*USB -set USB Mode to Midi (if not using midi cables)

In the DAW (Cubase Se in this example)

On each channel
in = all midi inputs
out= Roland Fantom
ch=any
bnk= off
prg= off
map= no drum map

****if sustain or fx's hold on certain notes or act crazy then go to midi dropdown and click reset.

****Also in my situation midi tracks 1 and 10 are unusable as they will play midi data for all the tracks combined and will not seperate.

***In the transport menu turn of "sync online" to be able to have the sequence start playing automatically when you hit record.

Hope this helps someone.

Just make the DAW the master and solo/mute each track as it goes until all tracked out. I use Pro-Tools with spdif so my sound is so clear already with no air and all of my BASS! Hits so HARD!

I am the BEST!

First: svq files are midi files + additional Roland data and can only be read by your Roland device.

But: you can save the midi data of your svqs as pure midis on your card. Press "SAVE/LOAD" -> "Save as SMF".

Then you have the raw midi data on your card, can load them into your DAW (Cubase) after putting the Roland card into your PC card reader, or by direct file transfer.

This way you can edit and control (output to Roland Fantom with correct bank and prg numbers) the midis from within your DAW and record the results of single midi tracks to audio tracks (then muting the midi channels you exported) and do a mixdown later whenever you want.
