Hello!
Is the Skip back sampling blue color light on? Most probably it is off... check it out... The RAM should be Non ECC
Package: 168-pin DIMM
Feature: SDRAM, PC100 or PC133
DIMM Type: Unbuffered
Error Checking: Non-parity or Non-ECC
Speed: 100 or 133MHz
Voltage: 3.3V

Re: PLEASE HELP!!!!
Also make sure the RAM board is low profile, 38mm or less, otherwise you won't be able to put the cover back on.
Re: PLEASE HELP!!!!
sandessamararatne,
The problem isn't your memory. It's in your understanding of how the the Fantom's memory structure works.
When you expanded your Sampling memory with the additional 256meg, this is the memory that is used to temporarily store the sample until you write it to User memory or to Card memory. User memory is 32 meg and cannot be expanded.
The Sampling memory is used only[/] when recording a sample. It serves as temporary storage, just like memory in a PC. If you power off the Fantom, you will lose the sample if you don't write it to a Card or User memory.

Re: PLEASE HELP!!!!
Thanks a lot for your help. So you are saying that if I add in a PC card I could write the sample there?? Also in the user memory it ways that there is about 17MB available. The sample i am trying to save is 14MB and it still wont let me write it. Any suggestions??
Re: PLEASE HELP!!!!
You're welcome.
Yes, you can store your samples on the Card.
I'm not sure why you can't store the sample in User memory if you have 17meg left. I've got to get to a gig, but if I think of something I will reply later.

Re: PLEASE HELP!!!!
ssmickey,
Let's not confuse things here again.

sandessamararatne is trying to store a sample to User memory. This is not the same as the sampling memory that is used while sampling as is commonly referred to as RAM in the Fantom.

Re: PLEASE HELP!!!!
Bassman,
‘There
’ it was not my fault, here yes... I am at a fault… and I am sorry for that… here sandessamararatne is able to sample but not able to write… correct…. Sorry everyone…
but I’ll tell u what happened with me… I bought 168 pin PC133, 512 mb RAM from a computer shop, inserted it CORRECTLY and checked the specifications on X7- the display showed 1352 mb … firstly I thought - Has the shopkeeper given me 1 GB or what?? but even then the mathematics was not correct. Then I thought lets sample through skip back… anything I would try to do it would say ‘Memory full’ - small samples. Out of built in 32 mb ram I had used only about 12 mb, some 20 mb was free…. Then I noticed that skip back sampling blue color light was also off… VERY QUITELY I switched off the X7 and removed the RAM. With 32 mb built in RAM everything is working in order.
Now I enquired about the RAM which turned out to be ECC so I am trying to source NON ECC RAM which is NOT available in many big cities. The venkiee thread [of 1 GB RAM] also says that ECC RAM will not work.
Generally what computer people keep is ECC RAM... for NON ECC u've got to order/enquire specifically... at least this is what I have derived from my experience...
Can there be any other problem in my case???
Once again everyone... I am sorry...

Re: PLEASE HELP!!!!
The user manual doesn't specify wether to use ECC or non-ECC. Even if it is non ECC how do you tell the difference?
Re: PLEASE HELP!!!!
id like to guess what ur problem is .............trying my luck...
...Possibly you have samples loading up when u switch on the fantom n those samples have occupied ur already small memory .................MAYBE.............

Re: PLEASE HELP!!!!
I've deleted all the user samples, the only samples in there are the preset ones. Memory used by the songs (.svq) shows up as used memory in the info section right??
