Sustaining Pedal

I am having problems getting my sustaining pedel to work right. Could it be that I have a cheap pedal? IT is an M-gear pedal. I have tried all kinds of scenarios within the menu/system and nothing seems to work.

I had a sustain pedal for my old board that used a break contact switch as opposed to a make contact (or vice versa.. It's been a while) which meant that when i switched to Rolands it sustained on pedal up... If thats the case it's easy enough to open up the pedal and do some brute force rearrangment of contact points (if it's fairly cheap).

Sounds a no-brainer but maybe also check that you aren't just trying to use a patch that has the sustain param set to off.

Beyond that I'm fairly stumped.

Yes, Perry, first describe what you mean by not working right.

And Rashbaum, the best way to alter a pedal is to buy a replacement phono jack and change the polarity. No brute force rearrangement of the internal switch is necessary. The other way to change polarity it to go inside the pedal itself (if it is practically accesible) and switch the polarity on the internal connections.

Go to Menu->System->Pedal/D-beam and set Hiold Pedal Polarity to REVERSE! [Owner's Manual p. 126]

wish they'd had that on my old va-5... would have saved the percussive maintenance.

Some other boards also reverse the pedal if you hold them down when you power on.

Thanks to everyone for their suggestions. I'll try them. I have opened up the pedal and checked the connections but I didn't look at changing the polarity. I'll try it all since it is a fairly cheap pedal, including the replacement phono jack.
