I crank up the headphone volume and main volume and the sounds are still very low. I checked all the wire connections and everything is securely in place.
I tried the same sample on my other 8800 and the volume is fine on all outputs.
Other than taking it apart (again) and checking the volume pots, what else should I look for to correct this?

If it's only one sample it has to either be in the routing or how the sample is coming in. Have you tried the sample in an audio phrase and a patch?
If everything is quite it could be a global setting. I believe headphones get their feed from the MIX

I finally took apart my MV-8800 for the fucked up main volume and found 5 bulging caps (C247, C260, C210, C234, & C275) on the circuit board that I will have to replace. FUCK!!!!!
