MV Mods
MV Mods
I'll start this off...
I modded my 2nd MV-8000. Replaced the stock 40GB 4200RPM harddrive for a 700GB 7200RPM hard drive, Added a quieter Silenx blue LED fan, Replaced the CD drive with a DVD-ROM drive.

Re: MV Mods
That's a big jump is storage. You sure you're going to need all that? lol
Re: MV Mods
I´ve put SSDs in both my MV-8800s, replaced the fan and put black pads in one of ´em. That one is fast and deadly silent...
Re: MV Mods
I've never seen the word "fast" used to describe the MV. Putting an SSD in it is kind of pointless as there's a bottleneck at the IDE buss. I mean unless you somehow figured out a way around that, I don't see any advantage.
Re: MV Mods
Yeah there is a bottleneck but with SSD's you have silence, no fragmentation, reliability and they are so cheap now it's an easy mod to do to future proof your MV.
Re: MV Mods
Yeah they are silent and they generate less heat (not as if that's an issue). I'm not sure they are more reliable though. Sure they are less likely to be damaged if you move your MV around or take it to gigs. But SSD's do not usually last as long as HDD's and can go out with little to no warning.... Anyways though I guess that's just a personal choice. I just don't see how it can be faster. At least not much faster.

Finally added colored pads...

Re: MV Mods
Confirmed!
The internal DVD drive models #UJDA770, #UJDA775 & #UJ120 (BluRay Disc) all work on the Roland MV-8000 & 8800 sampler making it future proof!

Re: MV Mods
Going to try a new mod. Saw the UJDA775 listed as compatible (9.5mm) and then while looking on ebay, saw a SATA HD caddy that was a direct replacement for the cd/dvd writer. It fits a 2.5" SATA drive inside it but has the same shape and 44 pin PATA connector as the UJDA775 9.5mm drives - advertised to be able to add a second hard drive to your laptop. I then bought a 120GB SATA 2.5" drive for it at $39.00 and free ship. The caddy was from China at $17.99.
If this works, it will add 2nd drive to the MV at the loss of the dvd/cd writer.
Wish me luck. Might take a few weeks to get all this and brand new in box mv8800 I got.
Gotta do the silent fan mod on this one too. If this 2nd ssd mod works, I'll post up the models of caddy and ssd drive I bought from the bay.

Re: MV Mods
I am afraid it won´t work because the CD drive is a removable drive whereas a harddisk isn´t.
I still hope you will succeed with the mod, though.
