THE CLASSIC MPC 2500 OR THE GREAT MV8000
I'm pretty sure this question was ported before........So I was at SAM ASH rite, playing with the mv-8000, and it has sum cool features. so I ask the how's the sound quality, as far which one gives you a cleaner sound.. He responded " The MV- 8000 Hands down GIVES you much more features but as far as sounds quality no one beats the mpc 2500, not even the mpc-3000, or the 4000 comes close

actually you mean the "classic" MPC2K, not the 2500, but you're crazy in not believing that any true MPC fanboy wouldn't want a 3K if they could. the 60 & 3K are the Linn babies, rare ones too. the whole swing function is misunderstood as you can get that feel with a 4K or the others. just different quantizing features in different times imo. more heads nowadays go for complete quantization tomfoolery whereas the old days imo it was preferred to be more "humanized" opposed to the take for granted ways today.
you must be referring to the MV8800. SamAsh would be pretty dumb to try and sell an older model when in fact they're trying to sell a product that made up for the previous model. unless you were fooling with a clearance or floor model. we're in high resolution days. you can't compare lower quality grit to the newer days. however, don't get me wrong, if a kat wants to fool around with a SP-1200 because that classic grit then by all means go for it. speaking of which, MPCs or EMU's got their popularity because at the time you'd sample off mastered vinyl anyway! that's the main reason why they sounded good. try and sample/record beats from scratch and you'll see that these samplers had their days because off record, crate digging sampling techniques. again, sampling off quality mastered output from 12-bit or 16-bit in 32-44khz is still going to sound nice!! analog (vinyl) ->sampler -> crisp grit dirty sound! sample off CD...z ZZzz
always consider the technique vs. specs and converters. regarding the MPC4K, would be dope to have one, just as well as the MV-8800. however, i believe in the 4K you're dealing with 96khz audio!

What's the difference between the 2000 and 2500? I could have bought a 2000XL-MCD last month but went with the 2500 because of the internal hard drive - 40Gb of samples is a world of difference to samples on CF. And I don't think anyone should be purchasing something today and end up using SCSI.
So why is the 2000 a classic?

I agree with you LivePsy. in fact if I were to work with any MPC it'd be the 4K, simply because of the 96khz. Use an Apogee, RME, or Prism with that and forget about it!
Within hip-hop or electronic dance music, to ask why an MPC-2K is a classic is like asking why a 1965 mustang is a classic!

yeh my bad break it was the 8800 series.......Thanks for your knowlegde...I did hear that if you put anything through the apogee it would blow your mind...but that thing alone costs like 2,000.00 dollars
Re: THE CLASSIC MPC 2500 OR THE GREAT MV8000
What sort of respect does the MV-8000 or MV-8800 get in the hip hop world when obsolete machines like MPC2000 and ASR-10 seem to be favourites?
Not considering the Roland promo videos

LOL!
This is the best myth I have heard related top music equipment.
There was another one, which I heard from a music instrument salesman: that the length of MIDI cable affects the SOUND !!!
