How to play a midi track in a daw on the Jupiter X

Post by blytzz »

Hello, hopefully this has an easy answer, haven’t found one so far though. I’ve loaded up a midi track in my daw, without getting into daw settings on this post, I’m just hoping to find out what settings need to be on(in the Jupiter)in order for the midi notes in the daw to transmit to the Jupiter so whatever scene or part I have on plays the midi file. Hope that question makes sense…I’m french…forgive me.

Realized routing from the daw had an issue, fixed and now it’s working. Im still not sure which midi thru settings on the Jupiter allowed it to function properly as I just turned everything on, but w/e, the manuals and Roland youtube tutorials are not great…but this machine is everything I could dream of for a home/pro synth…so fun.

By default:
Part 1 = MIDI Channel 1
Part 2 = MIDI Channel 2
Part 3 = MIDI Channel 3
Part 4 = MIDI Channel 4
Part 5 (drums) = MIDI Channel 5

MIDI Thru has nothing to do with that on the synth.
Set it to OFF to avoid MIDI loops, unless you have other synths daisy chained to the Jupiter-X's MIDI OUT DIN.

Don't apologize for being french: see you @Audiofanzine. ^^

That only works to a point. I've tried this approach and it has two huge limitations as far as I can tell:

1. The I-Arp functions don't work when remotely controlling each part from a separate MIDI channel.
2. You have to use FIVE of 16 available channels just to control one board. That's ok if recording 1 part at a time, but for live performance that is really suboptimal to put it mildly.

If I'm wrong about the above, GREAT! I've posted about this same issue elsewhere and received zero response. I'm still waiting for the Roland tech at Sweetwater for nearly a month now to call me back about this. I get the sneaking feeling the answer isn't going to be good. What is needed is the option to control the ENTIRE scene (a la Keyboard Switch) from a SINGLE selected MIDI channel. As is now, if you turn the KBD switch ON, you CAN control the entire scene, I-Arp and all, from another board, but it sounds off when it receives data on ANY MIDI channel, not just one specified one, which again is useless in a live setting with multiple boards.
