I was trying the 2.0 update sample functions and I found them very slow.
Takes ages to load a drum sample kit and then truncate a single mono drum sample too.
Is this normal behavior? or I´m missing something?
Slow sample functions?
Re: Slow sample functions?
There is great review here...
https://loopopmusic.com/fantom-version- ... -6-7-and-8
The sampling is said not to be as fast as when made on a computer, but the time it takes looks, to the reviewer and to me, more than reasonable.

Re: Slow sample functions?
I agree, sample functions are slower than an PC, iPhone or iPad.
Re: Slow sample functions?
Maybe the Roland Fantom is using some type of rewritable memory: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Read-only_memory#Types
This type of memory is non-volatile, has fast read but slow write operations.
The advantages: all samples are in memory, the startup is relatively fast (remember MV-8xxx) and the shutdown is very fast. I love to switch my projects (scenes) without latency on the Fantom.
About the sampler, the first operation I do when I import/record a new sample: truncate.
I keep small samples (loops) and the operations are fast.

I,ve tested loading 198kb (kilobytes) sample, 20 seconds for loading.....
Re: Slow sample functions?
Wow I don't remember a so long time and I use larger sample.I,ve tested loading 198kb (kilobytes) sample, 20 seconds for loading.....
Can you check the properties of your WAV file? I use only 16 bit / 48kHz samples. Maybe related?

Re: Slow sample functions?
This could be the issue, I recall from the recent synth talk video on YouTube they mentioned that the Fantom converts samples to 48kHz when you don’t provide that format in the first place.Redrain68 wrote:tsez wrote:Wow I don't remember a so long time and I use larger sample.I,ve tested loading 198kb (kilobytes) sample, 20 seconds for loading.....
