Cheeses...Look at that !!!!
A microscope !!!!

So I am able to play music by not just hitting the keyboard, but also placing atoms here and there....

Next update should allow us to see clearly if Major and Minor are things related to protons and electrons...or whatever.

Still no way to cicle through "Kbd Sw Groups" using a pedal or the S1, S2 or S3 buttons?
Or to cicle through the 16 pads in any pad mode...?

I am afraid not.
But they are approaching the matter...S1, S2, S3 can now be set to go up or down the groups...

S1–3 Switch Assign
GROUP PLAY DOWN
Selects the previous group in the group list.
GROUP PLAY UP
Selects the next group in the group list.

I've been on the sidelines waiting for Fantom to fix a bug I encountered the first time I used a Fantom on the showroom floor. The issue was the lockup/freeze issue that requires pulling the plug in order to shutdown since even the power button becomes unresponsive. I was not doing anything "crazy" at the time of lockup.

Frequently checking in during each update, I read users who claim the issue has not been fixed. None of the firmware release notes - including Version 2.0 - mention addressing this issue.

I do understand that some users have not seen this problem - so the prevailing thought is that perhaps the issue is not entirely software although software may be a part of the issue. Perhaps that hardware variability contributes to the occurrence. Including some who will "never" see the issue due to being on the right side of the hardware tolerance/stackup curve.

Where do we stand? Does v2.0 remedy the lockup issue even for the unlucky "few"? Or is prevalence of the bug still the same - resulting in a "luck of the draw" experience for new users?

I don't NEED a Fantom. My RD-2000 is still holding down that position in my studio. I would like to "upgrade" the RD-2000 to a stable platform that can give me the RD-2000's keybed, modeled pianos, and similar MIDI architecture. The Fantom satisfies most of this - but I question the stability still.

Hopefully the keyboard can get on more firm ground for me so I can have confidence when making the future purchase. Please let me know if the lockup/freeze story has changed since earlier firmware.

On a more positive note: good to see this substantial firmware release delivers on previous notions/rumors that there's more up the Fantom sleeve than meets the initial launch eye (namely enhanced sampling support / multisampling). This gives some credibility to the recent messaging from Roland that there is yet more to come in future releases.

Regarding that freezing issue, Roland DID NAME it in the 1.51 release...I would like you to know, JasonJ.

[ Ver.1.51 ] MAR 2020
[ Bug Fixes ]
The following bugs were fixed.
When using Master Key Shift, the pitch of SuperNATURAL Acoustic sounds fails to be set correctly.
With certain Scene settings, the unit sometimes fails to start correctly.

My Fantom freezed yesterday evening once, when starting; first time for the last five months or so. I simply made a second attempt and 35 seconds later the magic was fully ready again.
No freezings when playing so far.

My first Fantom 8 was returned for this issue, happening seven out of ten until finally becoming dead. Serial number was Z4K0888.

That 1.51 item doesn't match what my freeze experience is. Fails to start is one thing - but what I saw was a successful start/boot of the keyboard. Doing normal playing and previewing presets. Nothing fancy. And midstream the keyboard's oscillators "got stuck". Followed by the GUI freezing up. Not a startup issue.

I therefore do not believe this firmware change notice matches what I would consider to be the lockup/freeze issue as I experience it.

Startup issues I can perhaps (learn to) deal with. But as a live performance instrument - I cannot have the board lockup midstream.

To me it seems, that the amount of freezes are getting fewer widely, as people dont raise it up that often, compared to situation that Was a year ago or months ago. Personally have not had in months either. Occasionally see those random Led-flashings, but no other effect. These days I would take it to live use.
Fingers crossed!

JasonJ, my playing experience so far will not provide you with an answer for the chances of a freeze while performing live since I barely use nothing but the keyboard, S1, S2, S3, and keypads.

I prepare everything beforehand and absolutely nothing is required to be moved, just be changed at once either by the playing dynamics, keyboard ranges, switch groups selecting zones and then scenes changes that give way to another match in the performance.
Scenes changes are even triggered by S3 to avoid hitting the wrong one using the touch screen.
No other button or slider needed. If I see the need arises, it is then adjusted within the tone vía the envelope or the partials or via the zone or whatever.
This way everything is set strictly in the digital domain, with values perfectly matched, no way for sliders going to 100 when 95 was meant...no wide latitude given.
If I see a voice should come in after some measures, no slider movement is made, simply another scene is called in where the voice has the volume needed and the velocity, and everything.
It is such a pleasure to keep playing and see that the very same chord played by the same fingers can trigger such amount of different sounds for minutes...My friends, that came saying something about buying a plain piano now smile cheerfully at that idea....and can barely believe all this is feasible at the touch of S3.

Nevertheless I can start a series of test moving things randomly just to see if I can bring the Fantom to a halt and I will let you know...

I LOVE THE MARKERS !!!

I was using S3 to move through the scenes and I always had a hard time modifying the coarse and fine tunes so as to remain close to S3 and use it.

Now, with marker forward and backward at E6 and E5 I can expand the switching to both hands...and I am not limited to contiguous scenes.

Adding E1 and E2 to move slowly by one up and down is the perfect match.

I can even maintain all my fingers where they are and BEND FORWARD TO CHANGE SCENES USING MY NOSE !!!!
Yes !!!! The ending great chord will go on, with the echo, then slowly decaying its sound, even thunder, for a very long time, fingers kept glued to the keys...then BYUYNACS*, get on you feet, release all those ten keys rising your arms to show your are done and hear the applause, the cheerful people yelling asking for more*.... GREAT !!!!

Further improvement could be made by allowing the system to select the starting chain as already does with the scene.

*BYUYNACS: bend yourself, use your nose and change scene
* A scene configured properly for that is required, with everything starting as soon as the delay time for a KEY-OFF-NORMAL delay mode in the OSC has elapsed.
