In any zone set that tone.

Then Menu>Tone edit.
On the upper right corner...UTILITY.
Then select Initialize tone.
Confirm with OK.
Then Write>Tone
The name will appear as Inital tone and you are offered to write it on the name the tone previously had.

One of the reasons why we need a Fantom librarian....but Roland seems not hear us.

Means, I would be faster with a factory reset... But I would lose all my tone ratings. So thats the first and only thing what disappoints me on this machine. Got it some days ago and Im blown away. But that initializing to delete.. that is a huge problem. I will write them an email, maybe they hear me.. Thanks guys.

Go taking pictures of those ratings and if that is all, try with an internal memory reset, another type available that sounds less dramatic than the factory one.

I recommend you to take pictures also of the scenes so at least the orchestration is easily recovered.
You might be thinking I am joking, but read below...

Be aware that every time you recover a scene by importing it, so are the tones it had, so importing a scene five times will mean having those 16 tones repeated six times...and a time will come that when trying to import a scene there might be no empty slots available, so thanks to the pictures I recommended before, you can search the used tones, delete them (via initialisation) and once there is free space the deleted tones will be allocated again when the scene is imported.

That would be a solution mate but thats just annoying. I would like to say delete tones from lets say 0001 to 0821 in the user bank. By hitting shift and scrolling trough for example.. Go trough the installation again just to make sure that I dont make the same mistake of doubling something again.

Taking pictures of my ratings... Im a producer. I rated every single tone that COULD be interessting one day. Took me several hours to go trough.

And yeah.. Im not using scenes or the sampler. Im building the scenes in my DAW as Im creating a sample / melodie for a beat. I use the Fantom just for tones and the nice filter & envelope interface / analog filter. All the layering happens in my daw.

Now you could say why you spent 3.5K on that thing..

1. I dont believe that the Zenology VST sounds the same like a workstation.
2. Im recording the Fantom trough Tape emulation, compressors and coloration tools to to make it sound warm and fat (its a huge difference).
3. I needed a new (MIDI) keyboard anyway and this one has really good grip on the fingers and its pretty quiet when Im hitting the keys.

Im pretty disappointed from the Jupiter X. Very loud (metallic) Keyboard. Complicated system with that little screen on the side and to find a tone again takes to much time. Chaotical organisation. I installed almost all the expansions and models on the Fantom today. Now its pure fire. So happy. But that thing with deleting the tones.. Im not sure if I jumped a pack. It will take me hours again to go trough and delete some doubled sounds. And it will take me hours to go trough and see if I have jumped a pack while installing.

It didn't push me back 3.5, just 2.7 for an 8...
Christmas help the miracle...😀

I am a music lover, not a professional and when I played my piano I went "hearing other voices missing here and there" so I started my search and I was about to click for a Montage when Fantom was released, and since the Montage goes so deep turns its learning curve really steeeeeeep so I thought I better "started slowly" with my first synth. Enjoying it a lot and having much fun. The best toy I ever had.

This is only true for USER Tones used in a Scene. If the Zones in your Scene use any other type of Tone, including expansion/model presets, they will not be copied into the User Bank when you import the Scene. This is because the presets are always in the same location (same type, same bank, same slot) so it knows where to find them. However, because User Tones can be anywhere and it can't guarantee where they are, it recopies them. If you try to import a Scene that uses an expansion tone and that expansion pack is not installed it will simply leave the Tone blank in the Zone when you import it.

Yes, I was talking about those tones.

I barely find usable any tone without adjusting its everything for the scene, such attack, decay, partials most probably asking for a delay, effects and therefore all my tones are...well, mine.

So those 3564 slots are easily depleted and even more so if recovering a scene via importing is done often.

I have written an email to Roland support. If there is a work around for deleting multiple tones and if not, they should consider that for a next update. Selecting multiple tones in the user bank by holding shift and then a DELETE function on the screen! It could be so easy. The question is, how the software of the Fantom is built in the background. Maybe its not that easy.. We will see. Anyway. Great machine and thanks for your inputs guys. There are not many people in this forum..

Got an answer from Roland:

Hi John,

thanks for getting us aware of this!

As a fellow Fantom-owner I totally understand the problem. As of now the only workaround I can think of is to overwrite the Tones on next import.
I will be letting the engineers know about the wishes surrounding this matter, but can of course not promise if or when this will be changed.

Best Regards
