A Fantom librarian is essential

Post by wave »

Aside from editing Tones (Zen Core, Model etc.) I feel somewhat lost when I try to reorganise, move, copy or erase them. Especially after having imported all 100 SDZ sound sets and the 9 ones for Model Banks, I'm simply stuck because I would make an accurate selection of the Tones I like and get rid off the ones I don't like.
Zenology Pro can't be considered neither a Librarian nor an Editor that talks directly with the Fantom, thus a Librarian for Tones and Scenes is essential.
I'm wondering those people who think a Librarian is useless how they handle the Fantom internal memory. Life is short and I'd prefer to spend it playing my instruments instead of moving patches by hand.

How many Fantom users think the same way?

Thanks for your support.
What leaves me speechless is that on dedicated Facebook groups I’m made fun of my proposal.

I agree too, it would be very welcome. Entered that in the survey too.
But I've seen that request from several users on the groups, no funmaking...

Consider the source then march on. You are totally correct. A lot of us have run out of room but don't have the time or patience to delete things one at a time. Where the is the LIBRARIAN Roland?

Another 100% agree. Not something id use a lot, but it would be very welcome for tidying things up.

Im sure an independent dev could come up with something. This is what happened with the Montage/MODX synths.

We can only hope someone takes up the challenge.

This is the only reason for keeping my Montage 7:

Montage sounds amazing, but ergonomics are terrible... the less intuitive synth I have ever had...

I would switch to Fantom whenever the librarian and editor will be published (if ever) for both, studio and gigs. Was planning to buy a Fantom for studio and Fantom-0 for gigs, but reading people about the crazy organisation skills that you require to keep this beast running effectively, I decided to postpone my purchase.

Love Roland since more than 20 years, lately I loved my FA series, love the sound and the ergonomics and I have been dreaming about Fantom since day 1. But I have no time to waste switching soundsets and projects for my 3 different bands.

Did you attempt to contact the developer of the software for Montage?

New Fantom 7 owner. After only 10 days can already feel the need for an Editor/Librarian software...

I did not. As mentioned before, will not buy neither a F0 nor a Fantom until this is solved. However, Roland may publish an Editor/Librarian one day (some other products have), or Roland should contact R. Melas to order one.

I think that if they managed to make an editor librarian for the Jupiter X and Juno X, then Roland can also make one for the Fantom. John Males Waveform Editor is really excellent, but I think his work in handling your own samples would be very useful for the Roland Fantom series. Unfortunately, there is a big mess in Fantom's own multisample and sample section. Maybe it's just me because I've been using Waveform Editor by John Males for years. First for Motif XF, now for MODX. A lot of tedious work could be saved if there was a Waveform Editor for Fantom as well, where I wouldn't have to convert my own samples that are in SF2 format with the SVZ Converter. That's great, that's not the problem. The problem is that when you load it into Fantom, you first have to make it a Multisample, give it a name, and then save it as Multisample. How nice it would be if an Editor could already do all this work, and we only had to load the finished sample, and not one by one, but even for an entire library. You are thinking about the MODX/Montage libraries, but you can also load 1 sample if you like. If you upload the samples one by one, it is quite time-consuming. I did so and it took me half a day. The samples had to be made into a Multisample, and there were about 60-70 Multisamples. It would be nice if a Waveform Editor could do this easily and quickly, and we could arrange the mines in any order, using copy and paste, as we want. Montage doesn't have a Sampler, it probably never will, because nowadays Sample Robot and what I use Extreme Sample Converter solve much better than any other built-in Sampler. Both programs automatically sample anything, even the sounds of another synthesizer, you just have to select the appropriate key zones, and the sampling will be done automatically. At the end, you can use the Automat Loop function, so you don't have to deal with the loop points anymore, or you can do it yourself if you like, which is why the Sampler as such is better in software. Montage users can also download the Sample Robot program for free, because Yamaha has partnered with the developer of Sample Robot. I deviated a bit from the topic, but the point is that Roland implemented an editor for the Zen-Core and Model Expansion sounds with a very nice user interface for the Jupiter X and Juno X, I think the Fantom will also get an editor. What I think is even more complicated is sample management, for which John Males' excellent software is very effective. I love. You can also edit the loading of samples. We can even cut off the unnecessary parts from the patterns, and I could go on and on. This would definitely make it easier to create a Drum kit from your own samples, for example. I made about 10 of my own drum kits. I first had to upload the samples to Fantom, then assign each one to a key so that I could edit them. For example, Pan position, tuning, ADSR settings, assigning effects to a specific drum if necessary. It was no small job. After I bought the Fantom 7, this was the first one. I have all the patterns above that I need. We currently have a LinnDrum kit, Oberheim DMX, Drumulator, Korg Minipops 7, Korg KR-55, Simmons SDS 5, Fairlight CMI3, and a couple of typical Trance Drum Kits.
