Bending notes with hard keypresses
Bending notes with hard keypresses
I'm not sure if this is possible but rather that using the joystick to bend notes I would like to be able to lower the pich of a note by pressing a key (as per a blues harp). Can this be done with aftertouch? How?

Re: Bending notes with hard keypresses
I don’t own a Fantom (yet) but I’m pretty sure note bends cannot be done with aftertouch. Traditionally, aftertouch is assignable to modulation such as LFO, envelopes, etc. but not pitch bends ( unless it’s a pitch envelope trigger?)
There is a new MIDI controller called “Osmose” that CAN bend pitch with aftertouch. As far as I know, it is the only one.

You can absolutely bend pitch via aftertouch. It's assignable at the Tone level via Matrix Control. You'll be a lot happier if you just learn to use the paddle or wheels.

I can use the paddle and wheels, but not when I'm playing bass with my left hand and harp with my right. Can you expalin how to do this with Matrix Control, I haven't dug that deep before?

It's easier to show than to explain in text. It will be an upcoming video in my series on the Fantom ... possibly the very next one.dobrojoe wrote:I can use the paddle and wheels, but not when I'm playing bass with my left hand and harp with my right. With a little luck, I should have this how-to/demo posted sometime this weekend.

I finally got around to doing the "Matrix Control" video, which includes how to do the requested pitch-bend-via-aftertouch:

Re: Bending notes with hard keypresses
Thanks for the video, ZT. I could never play real blues harp as much as I tried but now I've got a convincing blues harp on my Fantom 7. It will take a bit of practice to get the correct key pressure but I find that a sensitivity of -20 gives me a nice one note bend.
Now to try some pedal steel licks ;?)
