Need help migrating hardware JV-1080 patches to Roland Cloud

Post by Uncle Freddie »

Hi,

I am slowly and painfully migrating all of my physical hardware JV-1080 patches to my Roland Cloud JV-1080.

My process has been to bring up a parameter page on the hardware, then dig (and dig, and dig, and dig) around the parameter pages on the plugin, and set the sliders/knobs on the plugin to the same values as the hardware.

However, there are some parameter pages on the hardware that I cannot figure out how to map to the plugin:

CONTROL 1-1
CONTROL 1-2
CONTROL 1-3
CONTROL 1-4
CONTROL 2-1
CONTROL 2-2
CONTROL 2-3
CONTROL 2-4
CONTROL 3-1
CONTROL 3-2
CONTROL 3-3
CONTROL 3-4

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Fred

Freddie -- send me a bulk dump (SYX or MID) of your JV-1080 patches and I'll get them converted to the RolandCloud JV-1080 for you.

The Cloud JV-1080 is a bit sneaky. It's actually more of an XV-5080 than a JV-1080, hence slight differences among the parameters.

If I was you I'd take up skx's offer; bulkdump and send the file to him.

First of all, thank you skx and PaleSkinnySwede for the information and the offer to help me. I really appreciate it.

But an interesting development happened in the last 2 days. Roland Cloud has released an actual XV-5080 plugin: https://www.rolandcloud.com/catalog/legendary/xv-5080

But that is not all. They also have REMOVED any mention of the JV-1080 plugin, and now this link returns a 500 error: https://www.rolandcloud.com/catalog/legendary/jv-1080

What this tells me is that they agree with you, LOL. They are acknowledging that the JV-1080 plugin was never really fully accurate and was more like an XV-5080. My guess is that they have face-lifted the JV-1080 plugin to create the XV-5080, as well as discontinuing the original JV-1080 plugin.

Given this development, I sincerely hope they release a JV-1080 plugin that is truly like a JV-1080 hardware piece. Their D-50 plugin is very exact and even loads SYSEX files from D-50 hardware. Since the mid 1990's, my studio is built around several JV-1080 hardware units. Roland Cloud, if you are listening, we need a true JV-1080 plugin on the level of your D-50 plugin.

All the instruments gave me the 500 error so I don't think it's a JV-1080 issue. And it's working now even for the JV-1080.

I have, however, written a lengthy blog post about the Cloud JV-1080 and where it lands between the XV-3080 and XV-5080. Might be an interesting read. Linked below. Sorry for phishing reads ;)

I did some audio tests between the JV-1080, XV-5080 and my hardware JV-2080. The JV-1080 and XV-5080 sound almost identical. They're sooo close it's hard to actually hear any difference.

I really miss to not be able to load my SYX from my old JV-1080 in the software version. That'd be awesome. When Roland released the JV-1080 it was such an amazing experience that I actually bought a second-hand JV-2080 and filled it with my favourite expansion cards :D

If you want to read about my escapades in the land of JV-1080, hardware and software, you'll find it here:

I'm working on a blog post about the XV-5080 and how it differs from the JV-1080 plugin. Right now if just feels like a new GUI and more patches. You can load samples in the hardware, but not in the software. Shame on you Roland!

I've got a work-in-progress python script that does a decent job of bringing JV-1080 patches into RolandCloud. I'm not interested in selling it because I'm not interested in doing customer support. I'm happy to run any banks through it, though, and shoot them back.

Your job is very interesting. It would be really great to load all the patches of the Hardware JV-1080 into the Soundcloud JV-1080. Thank you very much.

Hi skx,
I would love to send you mine, too.
