So I was emailed by Roland to give me big discount on the new RD-2000 EX Upgrade. Goes for $199.00 but with my discount I can get it for $50.

The reason I have been offered this discount is because I purchased the German Concert V-Piano Expansion 1 software some months ago.

My quandry is that this EX Upgrade talks about having these very same German piano patches as well as some Upright Patches but since I already have them, why would I want to purchase this? What else is it offering me that I don;t already have on my RD2000??????

Roland, you should try to do a better job explaining your product. I am sure I am not the only one confused.

AIUI, the only difference between the non-EX and EX are the two V-Piano expansions:

• German Concert expansion
• Essential Upright expansion

The German Concert expansion was already available. Given that you already have it, you got a significant discount, because you would only get the Essential Upright expansion on top of what you already have.

One way to look at it

If you buy the EX, you get two new V pianos for $200
If you buy the GC, you get one new V piano for $150

So offering the second V piano to GC owners for $50 is no real discount, but does respect the $150 you have already spent, and buying that second V piano for only $50 more is a no-brainer - unless you are convinced you never need an upright V piano.

And number of patches is not really the issue - it is the underlying model you are really getting. The objective of the V-pianos is that you will go in and tune it the way you want.

That's all I need another two dozen piano patches! Lol. This board, heck all boards now, overwhelm me with all of the choices. I like to play classical on my Petrof grand piano and my Roland is for my rock band. I realize I can go in and shape the German patch(s) to more of my liking but I initial found them to "soft". The original Stage Piano on the 2000 cuts with the mix of loud guitars better but I realize these patches were probably not meant for such occasion. maybe one day I will dig in to them and see if I can make something worthy. But no, don't see a need for more patches.
