RD-88: Split with LOWER zone as the 'main' voice instead of UPPER1?

Post by Penguinator »

This is my first post, and I'm a stage keyboard novice- apologies if I've broken any rules.

I'm trying to play a song that starts out with piano, and then moves to piano in the LH and organ in the RH. My instinct here was to create a split with piano in the LOW zone, and organ in the UPPER1 zone, so that I could disable the split for the piano-only portions of the song and get just piano across the whole keyboard. However, it seems that the LOW zone is 'added' to the UPPER1 zone, and then taken away when the split's turned off, which gives me just organ instead of just piano. Is there any way of getting the split to go to the LOW zone instead?

I've already tried switching the ranges and voices of the LOW and UPPER1 zones so that they're each functionally taking the place of the other, but the RD-88 doesn't recognise this as a split and therefore doesn't behave as it would for one.

TL;DR:
What I want to happen:
SPLIT:[piano/organ] --(turn split off)--> piano
What's happening:
SPLIT:[piano/organ] --(turn split off)--> organ

Any advice?

I suggest you do some digging into the menu options for a scene...

I can't recall which sub-menu it was on, but I was playing an Upper 1 and Upper 2 scene this afternoon (No "lower" via a split); it was EP with pad on 1 and a grand on the the other. Looking into the menu and one of the sub-menus for a scene edit -- I saw where you can change a voice (tone) from "Upper 1" to "Upper 2".

And if I recall correctly, you can also set the key range for each separate voicing/tone too.

So instead of trying to switch between Upper and Lower with a SPLIT.........

--> Maybe you can switch between 2 Uppers with a LAYER turned on/off?

Take a look and if you can't find what I saw earlier, let me know, and I'll take another look and make some notes.

Hope this helps.
