Has anyone come close to tweaking a piano sound on the RD-2000 to replicating a Steinway or Yamaha? I love the hammer action on the RD-2000 but I just can't seem to dial in that"special" AP.
Thanks

Which patch is the closest to what you are looking for? What is that patch missing?
Do you have something that sounds better on headphones or speakers?
These might give some hint on how to start customizing a patch to your liking.
I find that piano sound tends to be somewhat a personal taste issue. But with all the piano patches in the RD, plus the V and SN customization, we should be able to find something that works.

Bold Beauty works very good for me (I play it at my church five times a weekend with many compliments on the sound) but just curious if there's a download section of piano sounds for the RD-2000 other than AXIOS. So I guess BB is closest to what I'm thinking of.

If you like Bold Beauty, also check out EXP 3 002 - 7SX Grand RD.
Of the EXPs, I think 3 has the strongest set of pianos. But again, it is personal preference.
There are no third party sound banks for the RD, that I know of.
But there is also no reason that Roland cannot convert some of the SRX series for the RD, other than they haven't.

I agree about the SX/GX alternate APs available on Axial, just seems strange to me that all the other top tier boards have free variations (except Krono$) available for download. Not a complaint but an observation on Roland's approach.

I guess I don't understand the comment:
And as for "variations" - many have Piano Designer settings, where you can make an unlimited set of variations. Or Individual Voicing settings.
The RD-2000 Axial downloads have not moved to Roland Cloud, nor has Roland started charing for them - although there prolly is a market for additional expansions for the RD-2000, via Roland Cloud. Imagine having some of the SRX available for the RD.
The RD-2000 includes essentially the entire history of Roland digital pianos, including free Axial downloads that fill in gaps in the built in tones. From the RD-1000 onward, you have all the significant generations. I agree they do not try to duplicate "other" brand sounds, but that is being true to their own sound.just seems strange to me that all the other top tier boards have free variations (except Krono$) available for download.
