Piano sound stagnates when playing fast

Post by mauriicefaes »

As I have not found a post to this topic already, I'm hoping to find an answer in this way.

To give a little context to my problem I need to explain what I have adjusted so far. While playing songs, I need to be able to switch through programs fast. To be able to do that, I assigned my second pedal with the function "program up". To be able to hold a sound with the sustain pedal while switching to the next program, the zones in the next program need to be activated. So I thought I'd always activate all the eight zones in order to never cut off a previous sound.

Works all fine so far. Now, when I'm playing a bit faster or just hammer around the keyboard (to really experience the problem), I experience that the RD-2000 is haveng an extreme delay (the RD2000 still is making sound, even though I'm not playing anymore) and also the sustain pedal (if held down) can not hold all notes played (some of them just stagnate and that sounds really strange).

If I'm turning off some zones the problem vanishes and also with the modelled Pianos (S1-S20) this problem doesn't appear.

Could it be, that the RD2000 is overwhelmed by 8 active zones and has a pretty weak engine? Or am I doing something wrong?

Thank you a lot for your time and help!!
all the best.

If you have all eight internal zones active while playing a fairly dynamic piece, you are demanding a lot of polyphony from the keyboard.

The reason it is not a problem with the V-pianos is that they do not have tone remain - they do not sustain through a program change.

Maybe I don't fully understand your use case, but I would recommend more focused use of the zones. Are you using different Tones in each Zone? Eight zones with a piano run, sustain, and a program change will prolly exhaust the polyphony capability even of this powerful board.

Thank you very much for the answer Desert Boat.

Yes I sometimes use five or six different sounds as a layering. I'm fairly glad to here, that I'm not using wrong settings or anything like that.

I just always had turned on all the eight zones out of simplicity, so I don't need to pay attention to which zones need to be turned on so the tones won't cut off while switching.

But in that case I will pay more attention put my focus on specific zone use.

Thanks again for the answer, this helps a lot!
