DS61 vs. 106
Hi everybody. I've never owned a JUNO before, but I'm looking at buying a DS61. I know Roland included emulations of the 106, but how does a brand new DS61 compare to the original 106? Would it be worth buying an old 106 and doing the servicing myself? What's the difference in sound between the emulation and the original?

Armen's Music in NYC has FIVE Juno 60's in their store, you can see them from through the window. I always liked the Juno 60's sound far more than the 106. Not everyone will agree, but I found the 60's filter warmer and rounder and not as nasal as that on the 106. Unless you are totally into Analog or Nothing, I would say a Juno DS would be a more useful tool than a Juno 106. Especially if there's work involved to get the 106 working well. Now, a Juno 60.... I don't know what Armen's asking and you'd need a DCB box for MIDI, unless you are purer-than-midi, lol.futurekevin wrote:Hi everybody. BUT here's why I came to the forum today. I just plugged in my JV-80 for the first time in a while, and though it's beset with the red glue problem, A <=> B'ing it with the DS61 I couldn't believe how much richer and more detailed it sounds!!!!! A lot of frequencies, and purer and deeper. Even the Reverb sounded classier.
Come to think of it...could it be because I'm plugging (the JV-80) into the Audio Input of the DS?! - Is that why it sounds so amazing? Is there compression or EQ on the Audio (not Mic) input of the JunoDS? - I ask because yesterday I plugged a different synth (SK-1) into the same input, and it also sounded better than I ever remember it sounding. Even the VR-09 sounded extra good (but not so great a difference) when plugged into the Juno DS's audio Input.
Any ideas? Thanks.
