Juno DS

Post by Junodsuser »

Need help. I understand why the patches sound different in Preformance mode on the Juno DS. But how do I get them to sound the same in Performance mode as in Patch mode?
Thanks

The short answer (which is all I understand so far, though it seems incomplete) is that, unlike in Patch mode where you are given 1 MFX, 1 Chorus and 1 Reverb, in Performance Mode, you have 3 MFX (multi-effects) available, and any Patch in the Performance can go to any or all of those 3 MFX, AND it's not automatic, that, when you are transitioning from Patch to Performance Mode via pressing Split, Layer or SuperLayer, the original Patch will be lined up with its MFX and ONLY that MXF, or its Chorus and Reverb settings, in the newly created Performance. (Nothing is Saved by that step, so nothing is lost.) (It wouldn't be anyway, because you still have your Patch in Patch ROM/RAM, and now you're working in Performance ROM/RAM. It gets trickier, because CERTAIN edits you make in Performance Mode MUST be Saved before you save this new Performance, on a PATCH level, or else the Performance you've created will sound different. It sometimes prompts you when you must do this. Tricky, because it takes some figuring out to understand which Parameters you're editing in the Performance belong to the Patch. And it's not as easy as pressing the Patch Edit Tab when you hit the Edit screens. (Or is it? Gurus, please help, Please!! ;) ) thanks.)

Getting back to why or if the Patch sounds different in the Performance: in the very important MFX MODE Page of the Performance, you are theoretically able to tweak the settings so that your original Patch sounds like it did when it was just a Patch. But I have found it quite complicated to achieve that. There are 16 different "Modes" you can configure the Patches and FX in! Sometimes you get lucky choosing one of those 16 MFX Modes and it sounds better than you could even imagine! Yet, other times....
I'm still working on it. Nonetheless, I really do love this synth! Great sounds, deep editing, lightweight, expandable, computer-friendly, Super! Thank you, Roland!
