Post by Jon H »

What is wrong with the stock pianos on the Fantom? Tried the UltimateGrand on the Fantom X?

I see on your profile that you have an FS. I get decent results with the Concert Piano and a few others. Do you have a decent amp? What is the deficiency that you're trying to correct?

Giving some more detail will help get you some more specific tips.............your definition of a GOOD piano sound needs to be articulated.

Why not just sample a real piano?

Post by ricok987 »

The Fantom can accept raw sample data-just record a real piano middle C, if you can access one. If not there are always sample cd's.

I'd say +1 to ricok.

There is a site which has free piano samples. Get some samples from them (no need all the keys, just a few) and create your own multisample.

I know you specifically said you don't want to buy an SRX board, but do check out the SRX-11 sometime if you haven't already. It's awesome :)

I use my X8 mostly for playing piano, and since buying the SRX-11, I haven't touched the Fantom's onboard piano patches, which says it all, really!

great pianos

Post by William Coakley »

If you're tired of pianos that don't work for you... then check out the demos at williamcoakley.com and call the 800 number. I got into the sampling business because there was nothing decent to play despite marketing company hype. My 128 meg Hamburg D turns the Fantom into a world class concert grand that plays and sounds better than anything you've heard so far. If you have any questions, I will be more than happy to answer them.

William.......learn how to post a link. There are clues to the right of the message box, when you post a reply.

WilliamCoakley.com

If you're like me, a guitar/bass player using the Fantom for simple fills and backup work, do not go to Mr. Coakleys site. I repeat, stay away from Mr. Coakleys site. If you do, do not, and this is very important, do not download and listen to any- & I mean any- of his samples. The playing is brilliant, awesome, and the sounds are bordering on orgasmic. You'll end up wanting to buy the lot, even though you(like me) can't play piano.

Mr. Coakley, you sir are a bad..bad....man.

Well, I'm not used to being up this early (East coast) so I guess I missed the link thing... "operator error." Thanks for pointing that out.

Anywaze it's good to be among fellow equipment junkies and sound freaks... maybe we all need rehab but we are still somewhat functional... I speak only for myself, of course. Just wanted to say that the pianos for the Fantom can do most anything from serious classical to violent banging. The piano is set up for easy voicing and changes but should fit most apps out of the box.

Hey Mr. Coakley.....I really enjoyed your whole site. Great little articles you've got there. I've been asking that question(Is bigger Better) for a couple of years now, and haven't got a good answer, till I read your site.
I've got about a half dozen great piano's for my old EPS 16+ that are at least in the league of every hardware piano I've heard, and they are tiny, in comparison. I've got two maybe three gigabyt piano's on my computer, that are good, with all the other extras they throw in there, but sound wise I can't tell they are bigger than my old EPS sounds.
like I mentioned earlier, I'm not a piano player by any stretch of the imagination. I can program simple parts, and beat out rhythm backings, but that's about it. I'm not into synths, and samplers, and all the programing and sound designing that can be done with them, when I buy a piano, I'd like for it to sound like a piano, so I can get on playing my guitar.

I say this, just to say..........if you don't mind, could you fix the order page link from your site??

Also, Mr. Coakley, I notice you give a prominent shout-out to the Motif and Triton- How about the Fantom on the same page?

Not sure about the order page... it's working now... were you not able to access it?

Also, I'm not sure how to configure a link here. I edited the message but it still doesn't act like a link. I can see the stuff to the right of the message box during editing but clicking on it doesn't seem to change anything. I'm sure this is pretty elementary but I do need help with it.
