Re: SAmple conversion program ...
ruifa,
your disappointment seems adequate to me.
Fantoms sampling abililty is just a toy feature as long as its not compatible to common sample libraries. If it's politics to raise srx boards sales I can reply: This is the reason why I still did not buy a Fantom. As soon as Yamaha is out with a MotifES Rack they get my money. KORG will come over with a rack version soon also.
If Roland is unable to fix it's obvious problems with the X's sample format in the very next future they lose a big chance in the market.
As I know from talks with fellow musicians and producers I'm not alone with this oppinion.

Have to admit I'm getting a little frustrated about the software, come on Roland WTH??? Seems misleading when you see the conversion software advertised with the Fantom X on the video of the Namm booth video :
{6:22 into the video} import roland s, and akai libraries. "Gigabytes of samples out there you can use with your Fantom X" ;D

Re: SAmple conversion program ...
I agree with everyone, but I am sure roland is just waiting to unveil it at the next NAMM show. However, they shouldnt have even started promoting this software yet as a selling point for the Fantom-X if it was gonna be 7 months to a year for it to be released.
Since my purchase of a Fantom-S I have been constantly disappointed by Roland (even had to put in the shop for a month after only having it for 4 months). So far the ONLY redeeming thing has been ARTEMIO and all HIS HARD WORK at this website!!!!.Creating and organizing multi-samples is time consuming and very very frustrating! My 1985 Emax HD is so simple to create and store multisamples.I figured 20yrs of new technology wouldve made things even simpler........WRONG!
I purchased my fantom-S thinking it would alleviate the need for a additional sampler.......WRONG AGAIN! After having my Fantom-S for only 6months I find now that I couldve waited and bought a Fantom-X for only a little extra cash....very heartbreaking.Their warranty is a joke......sure they cover parts, but with a labor fee of $75+ an hour.....who is coming out a loser here? My little display problem that occured after only 4 months of studio use wouldve cost me $197 to repair(the part was less than $30).
But in Rolands defense, there are a few things that I think are superior to the Tritons and Motifs.....
#1- Sturdy build-it can take a beating(tritons seemed sorta flimsy to me).
#2-User interface-(I get lost in the Motif's endless sub-menus)
#3-SRX boards-some killer new sounds
#4-new patch potential through editing(ARTEMIO has proved this with his created patches(which are better than some of the stock ones). I read somewhere that if you buy a synth for the preset sounds alone, you arent a true electronic musician/synthesist. We should go back to the roots of electronic music and learn to milk our equipment for every drop of sound it can produce.Think about what the guys in the old analog days used to have to go through with all the patch cords, and no way to save newly created patches.
As a starving Artist I cannot afford to jump out and trade in a keyboard everytime something new comes out,so I have to make do with what I have. For the price....I still find the Fantom-S a good buy, but definately DO NOT buy it for the sampling feature. I sorta look at my my Fantom as a groove box with a built in keyboard....lol.
Once again MANY THANKS to ARTEMIO and others at this forum, its YOU GUYS....not roland that makes having a Fantom a pleasurable experience!!!

Lol,

As a Triton owner(Triton Studio) I can tell you the Triton Studio is one of the most sturdy and nicely constructed I've ever seen. I totally disagree with you(been a Korg user for years). Their products are always highest quality unless you buy a cheapo.
#2
Beats the crap out of Yammie, but Korg..... still IMO the best interface and controller.
#3
Yes roland reigns king on Rom expansion, Fantom XR can have 6 SRXs!!!!! Over a gig of sounds in the XR. Korg has some nice stuff, but they are weak compared to Roland on ROMS. Yamaha sucks here IMO. Korg has PCM roms and Moss synthesis boards which kind of makes up for it. Roland is KING of rom expansion.
#4
Each of the big three are very deep synths, this is not an advantage.
No rationalizing for Roland, it's time them to do the flippin' due.

Re: SAmple conversion program ...
hey John, howya been. I am not suprised that the Chicken**** Translator software is not ready for our XR's.
Since Roland said ' summer' and they are never early, I suppose all we can do is sit until Sept 1.
Would you return your XR without the Translator ? If a bunch of us threatened to do that, maybe that would force Rolands hand to to communicate WTH is going on.

again, i still wonder if only the FX users are going to get this said software, since us FS users were never promised anything like that

To John01W-
I also am a long time Korg buyer(poly 800,poly800II,M1,O1wFD) and wouldve loved to been able to buy a Triton. But at that time Tritons were still out of my price range. Since this was the first keyboard Ive bought in many years,I did not want to buy used. Ive even considered getting a Trion LE to compliment my Fantom-s,although Ive read the LE is not rom expandable, only sample board expandable. Youve got a Triton studio.......can I come over and play???? lol

Dude, wazzup:) Lol, I think that would be a bit much, I guess we'll be waiting til' september. Good to see you over here. We're kinda spoiled with the awesome akai loading of our Triton ST/EX. It's awesome to load an akai cd so great(get's almost everything) from our internal cds/usb cd drives. It kicks. Korg probably has the best akai loading in a workstation right now.
That said, I'm loving the XR. What an awesome module(looks as cool as it sounds, so powerful). I've already loaded it up phat with the 512mb pc133, ultra 2cf, some srx boards lol. Waiting to load some samples! I must say though, there's so many great sounds on the srxs, i'm still having a great time with those. Can't wait to load some akai cds in my XR and TS simultaneously, talk about a time saver.
I would SOOOO love it if Roland would put out a Symphony of Voices SRX:P.......
Good to see you again, love the Fantom XR. The Triton ST/EX and Fantom X/XR combination is awesome(especially if you has some 01/Ws layin' around;)

Hi there, you still have those Korgs?.. Whoa Nice! Love the 01/Wfd. Heck ya man, where do ya live:)? hehe. Got it loaded up phat too Triton ST V2(Moss, exb 1,2,5,6,7{8}), CDRW, EXB di. If you like the 01/W I got an 01/WFD and an 01R... a Trinity.
THe Fantom XR doesn't mind being there, sits very nicely with the Korgs.
I was really hip on the XR for the sampler for loading the akai, not an "audio recorder" as they have previously said. On the Triton Studio, you have direct to disk streaming audio tracks from the hard drive in time with the sequencer(like an HDR, no loading), why would I want to sit there for 10 minutes to load up an audio track into ram. I'm just waiting on the software, otherwise I'm pretty happy with Roland. Their crankin' out new SRXs(the big brass sounds pretty impressive, probably the best brass samples in a workstation/module)
The X could be a really super powerful sampler when the software comes out. After you do all your conversion, your phat ram load is just sitting there on the CF on the FantomX waiting to be loaded. It's not a big deal as long as they get the software to us.
PS, you'd probably want to go over to Gregs house as well:), he's got a blue meanie Triton Extreme over there with his Fantom XR. Greg will agree with me one how wicked the Triton Studio/Extreme and Fantom XR combination is.
Cya around, love those Korgs.
Sincerely,
John

Re: SAmple conversion program ...
Sorry John01w, all my korgs have been sold off over the years(reluctanly). If I had foreseen the price drop of the tritons after the release of the Triton Extreme I more than likely wouldve waited. Ive also had an Emax HD,and a Juno during that time too......all gone bye bye.
Fantom-S has been my first purchase in years. And at the moment I have been very torn wether to invest in a PC DAW or another keyboard(used triton or new triton LE). I would ABSOLUTELY love a Triton EX.....but its out of my price range at the moment as well.
Dont get me wrong,I like my Fantom-S,but I am really really concerned about its longevity. It was only out a year before being replaced by the Fantom-X. If the new conversion software doesnt support the Fantom-S as well, I am gonna sell my Fantom-S and invest in something else.
It just isnt up to par as a sampler in my opinion.
BTW I just moved from Atlanta area to Northeast Alabama. Beautiful area, and cheap to live. BUT......I can only call abut 10miles without running into toll charges, and the max internet speed I can get is 26k. VERY DEPRESSING,especially after having DSL beforehand........booo hoo hoo...lol.
Thanks for the reply JohnO1W,and nice to meet you GREGC! And many thanks to ARTEMIO and EVERYONE here at Fantomized forums.

Re: SAmple conversion program ...
hey s-joel, great meeting you , and welcome to this great forum.
My sister and family live in the Atlanta area. Compared to the manic prices of the San Francisco area, everything looks inexpensive in North Georgia. I have cable access which absolutely rips and is far better than our local DSL
I am slowly building my recording setup on my new Apple Powerbook.
I am shopping for an audio/midi interface. Next is Logic, then Arturia
softsynths. By the time I put that together, maybe Roland and Chicken**** will have their act together on the Translator. HAH !
Yep, John , I am jealous on your blown out XR. That XR with our Tritons is a killer combination. Did you get any of the Orchestra SRX 's ?
I am sortof ' strung out ' on the Extreme orchestras for the time being.
BTW, I swapped my EXB 05 Vintage ( to a dood in Canada) for the EXB 02 Studio which is in my Classic 61. You are right, there are some killer strings and vocals on the EXB 02. Before I let go of the EXB 05, I made sure that I captured all my fav 05 pcg's and combi's into my Extreme. It was a several hours of work but worth it.
