SRX97 with XV-5080?

Post by Bill Lumbergh »

I own an XV-5080 that can take up to 4 x SR-JV and 4 x SRX expansion boards. I also have a Jon Lords Rock Organ Board (SRX-97). I was hoping to install it but read on the box the limited compatibility of the board as noted in some other threads (the box states compatible only with: Fantom-X6/X7/X8/XR, Juno-G)

I'm loathe to try it in my rack as I'm worried I may damage something. Does anyone else have one of these installed in a XV5050/5080 or anything not listed as "compatible" by Roland? I spoke to Roland about this and they told me that it was a specific promo board for the X series devices and will simply not be recognised when installed - no mention of damage. I wonder if this is a marketing exercise to limit it being sold for other devices? Anyhow, any advice from anyone that's been game enough to try it would be welcome.

Whatever might prevent it from being recognised within a 5080 (if this IS the case), I doubt any damage would be caused by installing an expnsion board of exactly the same format. I know nothing though. Just reasoning that not recognising is far from the potential to cause damage. How did Roland release synths before the entire range of expansion cards? (assuming they did... i'm new to Roland synths as of last year). I suppose they programmed in to the devices "recognise a card that's called 01, 02, 03" etc. , so perhaps the fact the card is 97 is the only problem.

I'm glad you have posed this question. See my thread ...
