HELP WITH SRX EXPANSION BOARDS
HELP WITH SRX EXPANSION BOARDS
Which card is better in your opinion "Supreme Dance" or "Plantinum Trax." Also. "Symphonique Strings" or "Complete Orchestra" which is better. I want to buy one card from each group, but I want better of the two from your experience.
Re: HELP WITH SRX EXPANSION BOARDS
"Plantinum Trax" is a very nice board. It has techno, house, hiphop and selected sound fx sounds from SRJV80 series. I had house and hiphop boards and I must say the sounds are interesting and very usable. But...
..."Supreme Dance" is concentrated on single sounds rather than loops and phrases, which makes it more CREATIVE. I'd put it over platinum trax because of this - because I pefer a wider variety of single sounds to "ready-to-go" loops/phrases.
"Complete Orchestra" will be good for you if you'd need to have a whole standard set of classic orchestral instruments. But...
..."Symphonique Strings" will give you lots of simly outstanding string solos, sections, pizzicatos etc. The demo I heard really impressed me. It sounds very warm and natural and it's perfect for any style of music.

You may already have seen this, but there's a very cool interactive demo on the Roland US site that let's you listen to a number of the patches from each of the SRX boards. Here's the link (just click on "launch demo" down at the bottom of the page):

Re: HELP WITH SRX EXPANSION BOARDS
Once again, I would say that Artemio is right. I would like to add my personal take on two of these boards though. Platinum Trax to me seems more geared to electronic dance while Supreme Dance seems more geared to Hip Hop. Both boards could be used for either form of dance music but to me they seem to be a little different in what they would best be suited for. Something that I would like to add about Platnum Trax is that the sounds are a little old. I really like it because I like much of the classic electronic dance sounds and many of them can be found on Platinum Trax but I could see how others would not be real happy to have some rather common used and abused sounds. If you have not gone to RolandUS.com and heard their samples of them I suggest you do so. BTW, I do own Platinum Trax but I don’t own Suprem Dance.

Re: HELP WITH SRX EXPANSION BOARDS
I have Platinum Trax....what drew me to it was the inclusion of most of the SRJV Special EFX board's waves. These are utterly outstanding waves. They were borrowed from Spectrasonics Distorted Reality Library. I find these sounds to be the foundation for fantastic patch creation on the F-S. They are full of evocotive ear candy, and help to elevate the F-S into an entirely different sonic charactor.
I have never heard the Supreme Dance board, so I cannot comment on that. But the PT board is outstanding.

Thanks guys. Red Winger thanks for the link. I had over looked the interactive demo. Artemio, I thank that I will take your advice on the Supreme Dance and Symphonique Strings boards (what you said makes sense to me). I have wanted the Ultimate Keys for a long time, and I like World board. I have a Yamaha P250, but I like the Concert Piano board as well. Here in the States, these boards can be purchased for about $200 each. And concidering the price, I plan to fill all four slots.

"Symphonique Strings" or "Complete Orchestra" which is better?
Tough choice. I like em' both. If you do a lot of String work and like to orchestrate with separate Cello, Viola, C Bass & Violin then the S.S. is a great choice.
You'll find a much wider pallet on the C.O. board. It's my favorite.

Re: HELP WITH SRX EXPANSION BOARDS
Is really hard to decide.
Both dance boards are tremendously loaded with great sounds.
I had the original hip-hop colection (SR-JV80-12) and its loops is fantastic.
Platinum tracks is also loaded with this incredible sounds, and lots of Jupiter, Juno, and other sounds.
The hits are cool too! FS's sound set have some hits from the hip-hop colection. Just to reenforce.
Supreme Dance is modern, but it's focused on lots of hits and stabs. Guitar riffs, string effects and chords, some swippers, some real percussion sounds, drums to shake the child!
Well, do you really need an advice?
Relisten to both boards and judge for yourself.
If needed, go to ftp://ftp.roland.co.jp/pub/roland/japan/demo/
Download the mp3 demos and see them in action.
