Anyone has SRX-03 installed? how's it? nylon guitar, accoustic drum, brass are good? I'd like to have detail review of it.
Thanks,

Re: SRX-03 Studio - Review request
I have an SRX-03 installed in my Fantom XR, but I don't really know where to begin to give you a "detailed review." From your questions, it sounds like you want some subjective reaction to the various patches, but I'm not sure that will help you very much.
I like several of the Rhodes patches, but the ones on SRX-07 are better. The nylon guitar is nice, but it only sounds like a guitar if you play things that are playable on a real guitar. If you play it like a keyboard, it sounds like a wimpy keyboard. Playing things that a guitar player would actually play is hard for a keyboard player. Of course, that's not the SRX-03's fault.
The brass and saxes are OK, but not great. As far as I can tell, it's close to impossible to make a patch that really sounds like a sax. I've played sax for years and I can tell you that it's common to fool around with the sound between the attack and the release by adjusting the embouchure. That's something that's almost impossible on a keyboard. There's simply no interface that's capable of emulating what a sax player does. Trumpet and trombone are only slightly less frustrating to sample.
So, what else do you want to know? Ask and I'll do my best to respond.

Something more: if I wanted to lay down a saxophone section, I'd record the lead with my alto myself. Then I'd record the inside parts (2nd alto, 1st and 2nd tenor) with the Fantom/SRX-03. If the baritone has any exposed parts, I'd record them myself on my bari. If not, I'd use the baritone sax patch on the SRX-03. In other words, the SRX-03 saxes - and this probably goes for the brass, too - doesn't have solo quality patches on it. It has very good sectional patches.
It all depends on what you want to do with the sounds.

Re: SRX-03 Studio - Review request
SRX3 was introduced in the era of XV series to add basic sound sets. To me, it seems like not that great for FX since FX already has improved wave forms.
Re: SRX-03 Studio - Review request
dcool, I have the Studio SRX03 in my Rd700sx and it fills in nicely with extra guitars( all types inc.bass) , flutes, brass and sax and EP's
There are 5-10 very good patches on the SRX03 IMO.
dkpcola is correct. This SRX is sort of a 'enhanced XV' . But that is a good thing to have.
I also have the XR and definiely like the improved wave forms.
I don't think words or a comparison opinion will bring it home for you. I clearly like ' both ' . Someone else will say SRX03 not worth the $$.
One option is order it, and make sure you can get a refund if you don't like it.

Re: SRX-03 Studio - Review request
I've never used it, but to me it seems like a waste of an SRX slot. I never bought the SRJV session board either. I want expansion boards for 2 reasons.
1. to give me waveforms I don't have, I.E. the world board,
or
2. To give me better quality of sounds I need most, I.E. the Dynamic drums board.
it seems to me like any board that contains multiple instrument groups cannot achieve either goal. All it can do is provide different versions of existing instruments, but not necessarily better versions. It might have given better versions during the beginning of the XV era. I keep holding out for new srx that feature certain sounds. If I want better brass, I get SRX-10. Better winds, I'm hoping they release a woodwinds board soon. Until then I'm using soundfonts, which are equal or surpass quality with SRX I'd say. And many of them are free. Again, I've not tried it, so I'm not going to knock it too hard, but I've heard demos, and I just don't see myself wanting more "middle of the road". That's what the sample Rom is for. Expansions are for the knit-picky sounds, IMHO.
