The new Roland GW-8 will be debuted at the London International Music Show later today.

FYI, I've started threads about:

The GW8 looks interesting. Would like to see the manual to understand the features it has and also see the pricing.

Available September 2008 (?)

Sonic State says
Available September 2008.
Take that with the usual grain of salt.

I say "available september 2008"

I think it's far enough in the future to be realistic though?

Roland has posted the Owner's Manual. It can be downloaded from this page.

I've seen in the patch (and rhythm) description something like "x + x + world". Does that mean the GW8 also contain (some waveforms of) the SRX 09 "World"? Would be nice to find out...

wow- I just compared the tone list to the Sonic Cell- an exact match. So this is a Sonic Cell in workstation form.

I see that it does have World in the specs- but the SRX-09 card is only 64MB and the total waverom is 256MB- so I wonder what else they have done.

[edit] I did a search for World on the pdf manual- and besides the specs- there is only one mention of world- which is when you save tones via USB- there is a world section.

There is no listing of the World patches. I think we have a nice little mystery here. It appears the World card is included but there is no hard reference to confirm plus the 256MB waveform memory is more than the Sonic Cell and SRX-09 World card. Interesting

The Roland Central Europe site has 2 separate listings for the GW-8 keyboards, the GW-8L (Latin) and the GW-8E (Eastern Europe) models.

http://www.rolandce.com/products/produc ... uage_id=EN

There is also an Asian version as demonstrated on a Chinese music site with 2 videos (www.tudou.com). Stéphane Pigeon states that he was involved with a sampling session in China, as well as writing localized patch presets (Latin, East-Europe) for the Roland GW-8.

I'm seriously hoping that the world samples are the same on all the various versions of the GW-8 and that the only difference is the included styles but wouldn't bet any money on it. One thing is for sure, almost all of the demos so far have been less than stellar.

Hello

I was looking through the GW-8 manual in hopes that the onboard sequencer allows dubbing or re-recording of song sections using styles (chord sequencer?)instead of dubbing just one part at a time. Can anyone confirm this based on the manual. I know that the Roland E series sequencer didn't do this and my current Korg PA800 also doesn't currently do this.

As an example I mean this:

1.)I start a song and record a performance using style data and song data which means the sequencer records style information across 16 parts. I record 8 measures.

2.)Next, I decide I want to create the next section of the song and choose measure 9 to punch in and hit record. I capture 8 more measures.

Does the sequencer capture record parts 1 thru 16 along with the style data? Or does it only allow me to record 1 part/track at a time?

It does say you can "punch in" performances, and styles are part of performances. Maybe I'm reading too much into this. I would love this ability.

thanks
Brian

Interesting. Sonic Cell in a workstation arranger form, with the Juno Stage's display/USB audio player, and a few other goodies. I have no need for it personally, but I find it to be a fascinating product.

It'll be neat to see video demonstrations of this product when they're available.
