Hello everybody,
I've just got a XV-3080 some days ago and really like it so far. Some SRX's and maybe SR-JV's will follow.
The 3080 came with a CD containing a bunch of .SYX-files for/from the JV-1080 and XP-synths, as far as I've seen. Is it possible to use these in my 3080 and if so, how do I load them? Sorry, I'm new to the XV-world and don't know yet how to handle file formats.
I would load them on the SM-card and insert them into the slot. Do I have to convert them before I do so? Are there other aspects to take care of?
Maybe there's an overview of file-formats somewhere (syx, svd, svl, svq) and which synths they are working with?
Thanks for advice.

SYX-files into XV-3080 - How?
Re: SYX-files into XV-3080 - How?
hi pirx
No. SYX files are MIDI system exclusive data that you must dump through ... MIDI to your XV. The best way is to use a MIDI connection with your PC and a librarian software or a DAW like Sonar or Cubase to deal with these files. Otherwise just download MIDI-OX. I belive it will solve your problem.

Thanks for information, V-CeeOh, I've guessed it before, that it wouldn't be that simple. Do I see it right, that there isn't any possibility to make this tranfer from card to xv-3080? I have to do it via sequencer? I ask, because I know I can load a firmware update via card, so why not syx-files?
Well, I have got Cubase on the laptop, but I would prefer the card solution since I don't like setting up things on the laptop etc.
Thanks again.

Re: SYX-files into XV-3080 - How?
You'll need to convert the SYX files into SVD format, which can be accomplished with Roland's XV librarian. (They need to be converted to SMF first.) Each SVD file can contain up to 128 patches. Save all of these onto your SmartMedia card, and pop it into your 3080.
Any SVD file from the card can be loaded into the user area of your synth. Additionally, with the XV-3080 and 5080, you can assign up to eight, instantly-available "Card Banks" (aka SVD files). Select eight SVD's that you would like to use for the purpose (see page 127 of the manual), and you've just added another potential 1024 patches to your synth. How sweet is that?
If you need help converting the SysEx files, or you just want the SVDs without the hassle, I can put mine online for you to snag (they are probably the same ones you're trying to convert).

Re: SYX-files into XV-3080 - How?
Thank's a lot, Cloudschatze, I think the xv librarian for Mac is the same as the xv editor on the PC, isn't it? But honestly spoken, I would like to put the SVD's directly on my Smart Media. By the way, maybe we've got different files. Here's what I have on CD:
- eight volumes from 1080/xp50/xp80, each containing 127 patches from 'Techno Dance' to 'Classic Synths', some of them need the appropriate expression board, e.g. Volume 3 - Analog Heaven requires Vintage EX (don't know if they mean SR-JV or what), some not, e.g. Volume 2 - Soundtrack Film Mix
size: 591 Kb
- a folder with about 25 syx's (containing up to 64 patches) providing sounds like aliens, sirens, machines, other fx sounds, some single strings, leads or synths, all for 1080, comes with short discriptions from several authors
size: 400 KB
- another folder with a lot of categorized syx's, like bass, flutes, guitars, pads, synths hard/soft etc., don't know where they are from, no description here, could be from xv, but definitely all categories seperated
size: 6,1 MB
- finally a folder with a SVD-file, containing 64 Performances and 127 Patches, called Acid Experience Bank 1.1, quite expressive sounds, originally from a XP50, compatible to all XP/JV-synths
size: 65,3 Kb
So, I think, for me it would be nice to get the SVD's you have. If you could make it possible, I would really appreciate it, since I'm not quite good on PC stuff, always get some trouble there
) If you have use for the stuff I've described above, let me know.
