JD-Xi MIDI out channels

Post by ASHLEY L »

Hello! According to the manual - the MIDI Prog Rx/Tx Ch page in the menu can be used to specify a MIDI transmit and receive channel "for the program" which sounds like different programs can be set to send on different MIDI channels... however this seems to actually be a global setting. ie whatever program is selected is set to the channel last set.

I was hoping to use one specific part or program to operate another hardware synth via DIN, so I can switch between JD-Xi patches and a "blank" patch that could be used as a controller for the second synth.

I've seen a video that shows how MIDI can be sent over four channels (one per part) to a DAW via USB. Can something like this be achieved over the DIN, and sent out to hardware?

Hope this makes sense :)

Correction: It actually does send on 1, 2, 3, and 10 over DIN. Not sure why I thought it didn't.

MIDI Prog Rx/Tx Ch is set to 16, though... what does this page actually do??

Hi,

Channel 16 is used to send (TX = Transmit) or receive (Rx = Receive) Programme Changes and the like.

You can for example send a Programme Change message from a separate keyboard to the JD-Xi to get it to load either a pre-set Programme (say A4) or a user created programme (say E8) using the MSB/LSB/PC as detailed in the Midi Implementation manual for the JD-Xi.
