The V-Synth was v-expensive - no drums.

The Jupiter-80 too was v-expensive - no drums.

Both synths. JD-XA is a synth, hence no drums!
Cello sorry I didn't know this fact. Most of my big boards are all korg machines but I love sound of roland

cello wrote:I think both ways are exciting - that said I'm not getting the Xi but I have 2 XAs on order. To me the Xi is more of a 'one stop shop' - the XA is a sound creation tool and is intended to be used with other gear (ie TR-8). Ergo very different beasts but both powerful in their own way :)
Cello, why two JD-XA if I may ask ? Do you re-sell them ? or you need two for stage.
Also after somebody mentioned that TR-8 would be a good compliment to XA, I went to check videos of TR-8. You can get only electronic drum sounds on that, pretty limited with filters and envelopes too. The only thing I love on TR-8 are the volume sliders and the big dial for "stutter" effects.
On the flip site, the JD-XI has more potential with the drums at least for me. I like and use naturally sounding drums and drum layering on JD-Xi can do pretty impressive sounds. Only if roland implemented something like korg did on the new electribes which is called groove patterns.

Devnor, what if don't perform? ...(lately). ..Also I went trough hell of wiring, carrying stuff back and forth, etc. Today I really go for minimalistic approach. Even though I own many boards and ableton-push I do prefer to get a battery hooked to my JD-XI with bose portable speaker and just jam portable wherever I can. I like to push the envelope of what I can do with one or two portable units.

Oh, did I mention that i hate computers ...and I do have to turn the ableton/push on for some serious work.

Fair question, funktree!

I have all the AIRA gear so I want one XA to run through the MX-1, joining the other AIRA gear.

The other XA will be 'free running' - that is played as a separate instrument with different sounds.

I appreciate what you say about the TR-8 - my Fantom G6 can do 'real' drums when I want them.

Just FYI, the XAs will be joining the AIRA range (TR-8, TB-3, System-1, VT-3 and MX-1), Fantom G6, FA-06, V-Synth GTv2 and the Jupiter-80 - can't wait to hear them all together! :))

I was wondering: are the drum sounds on the JD-Xi taken from the Integra-7 or are they new?

I downloaded Integra 7 parameter guide and compared it to JD-Xi PG. Indeed the JDXI has stripped down version of integra drums layers.

Actually in the fylossofie of Roland, they are all solo synths, and solo synths don't require drums..
If you want drums, add a TR-8.. I think we will see the JD-XA as part of many a aira setup..
adding a system 1 modular opens up a whole world of even more modular stuff..

I dont think adding the integra 7 for drums will work very well, as there is no good controll interface ..
However, adding an integra 7 for more Roland sounds, just sounds like an awesome idea

how about adding the JD-XA on top of an RD800 with a TR-8 to the side and the Integra7, V-synth XT, System1 modular in the rack... add a macbook with Logic and mainstage and you can go anywhere you want..

Hmmm... Too many boxes ... If I perform somewhere the boxes dont fit in my trunk :)
Besides I like natural drum sounds and aria line miss that one

Sorry about contradicting a bit, but my V-Synth XT had Drum Patterns although somewhat limited from scratch.

Both the JP-80 and Integra-7, just to name a couple, have very capable Drums (Integra-7 is particularly deep). They will only need a good sequencer or DAW to fire those awesome drums.

I bought a JD-Xi because it have a drum track.
If the JD-Xa had a real distinct drum track like the JD-Xi, I would have bought it instead.
The "Real Analog Drums" sounds from Axial was not a solution for me.
It would be great if Roland fix this problem for their next version of the product.

I know this is a resurrected old thread, but the jd-xa isn't a groovebox/workstation - it's a synthesizer. As such, not having drums isn't a "problem" to fix.

Roland have a boat-load of stuff that does drums in their catalog.

bluehonour wrote:JD-XA is a lovely machine with 4 analog sounds + the super natural sounds + step sequencing... BUT why oh why exclude the drum sounds from it when you have the step sequencing right there? Was it so hard to include the drum sounds so we could make EDM with it easily without a laptop?!!

JD-XI has drum sounds but it has tiny keys and it's 3 octaves only.
JD-XA should have the drum sounds too! I don't understand Roland's choices sometimes.
Is it really 4 sounds? as far as i know each sound has two oscillators which means 8 sounds ;) right?
