Hmmm.... What is the extension of the file you got from Roland? What is at the end of the SH02 file?

(Is it an .exe, or .rar, or .dll, or .zip) etc etc...?

Thanks!
Ok, here's what I got. The desktop icon when I click it show "SH-2(32bit) Ver.1.06." When I click on it goes to a screen that says Modify Set Up...either repair, uninstall or close. When I hit repair it goes thought the functions and says repair complete. When I re-hit the icon, it goes right back to Modify Setup.
When I go into my Programs Files, it again shows up as "SH-2(32bit)installer". When I open it, it says you must Extract Files first. I hit Extract and when it's done; when I hit it, it TOO goes to the "Modify Set Up" screen...which gets me right back into the same run around.
Went back to my Roland account and did ANOTHER download of the program, which loads into my Programs File but I get the same situation.
Whatever you can suggest....?
And THANKS again!

....and in all of this, I cannot see anything that says ...exe,...dll....etc. on the file itself.
Did it NOT install? Do I need to upgrade my OS???

OK, further update. I bought my IT support team in today...also know as my daughter! Even SHE'S stymied as to why I can't load, install or transfer the SH02 info into the System 1. (FIU graduate with a BS in IT!)
She DID confirm the SH02 is an .exe file.
She doesn't see why there is no automatic INSTALL WIZARD after the download from Roland...cannot find the System 1 being recognized by the computer even though she DOES see it there in the computer. Tried to reinstall the System 1 driver only to be told it is ALREADY there.
I am lost!!!!
Think I should UNINSTALL everything and start all over?
Had a somewhat similar problem getting the 64 presets into the System 1 but that was a simple FUBUR by myself and my limited computer knowledge. This is WAY beyond a simple screw up.
HELP!

What you downloaded is the installer from Roland.

If you watched it carefully when it was installing, it does mention where the SH02 Plug in was being installed on your computer. By default, the locations are:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Vstplugins\Roland\SH-2

or

C:\Program Files\Vstplugins\Roland\SH-2

Look in one (or the other) location I wrote above and you should find the Plug Out. It will be called "SH-2(VST2 32bit).dll" or "SH-2(VST2 64bit).dll" depending on what your Windows version is. You drag this .dll file into VST host...

This should solve your problem! :)

Closer and closer!!!
Followed the above and now I see the SH02 in my vsthost......BUT....
How do I get it into the System 1?
When I click on the SH02, nothing happens...no program pops up with the Roland keyboard and settings.
Double click and there is no OPEN function, however several choices such as load, save, extract, etc.
VSThost shows Engine Input...0; Engine Output...1 and SH-2 ...2:SH-2 (VST2 32bit).dll
Now what to do???
Thanks!!! Jerry

I have to ask a couple of questions first:

- Can you play the SH02 Plug-out with your System 1 keyboard? Hear all the new sounds and patches?
- Did you follow the steps earlier so that VSTHost is recognizing your System 1 keyboard as the MIDI controller?

If you cannot get your System 1 controller to play your new SH02 Plug-out, please read the older post on how to get that set up.

Once you get that all set up, or if it is already set up, you just have to press the button on the SH02 that says the words "Plug-out" (Have a look at my earlier posts, I listed what steps you will find)

Hope this helps!

(Here's a copy of what a wrote much earlier in this post:)

1) Make sure your System 1 keyboard is plugged into your computer.

2) Make sure you know the location of the downloaded SH02 Plug in on your computer.

3) Start the "VST Host" program. Click on the word "Devices" and then click on the word "MIDI". It should show your System 1 keyboard as the MIDI device. Click on the words "System 1" and then press close.

4) Click on the word "Devices" and then click on the word "Wave". It should show where your sound is going to come from (computer speakers, ASIO interface, etc...) Click on that item, then press close.

5) Click on the word "File", and then "New Plug In". " It will open a search page where you locate your SH02 Plug-out. Click on the SH02 .dll and it should open in VST host. That's all you have to do.

Once you can play your SH02 with your System 1 keyboard, then press the words "Plug-Out"

OK, did all that. The Sh02 programs IS in he vsthost. The vsthost says it IS vst3, so it should work with the SH02. I've enter the System 1 in all the devices/midi/wave areas. But I still cannot access the SH02. No, I cannot play the SH02 sounds from the System 1. In fact, I don't see the System 1 being recognized by my laptop at all!
As I get closer, I see the SH02 program IN the vsthost allocated to the ENGINE OUT programs but can't actually OPEN the SH02...can't see the layout at all. Tried all other functions in the vsthost but cannot access it.
I know it's ME that's NOT doing the proper functions but with such a limited computer knowledge with these programs, I AM LOST.
Getting some funky screens in the vsthost. Still have the SH02 program there but now see a BUNCH of keyboards, one after the other, in the background! Sometimes I see a line directed from the SH02 programs to the ENGINE OUT icon.
Whatever you can suggest, THANK YOU!!!!!!
Appreciate your patience and I know you'll get me there. NOBODY locally can help and the local music stores are PATHETIC!!!!!

Ok - you're in the ballpark.

It's very hard for me to guide you, it's too bad I am not there beside you. We could get this thing going in about 1 minute! :)

Ok, when you see all those weird keyboards pasted all over VST host, you've just enlarged the SH02 icon too much. Try to shrink it down to a usable size, or simply close it down and re-start it again.

1) start VST host once again.

2) drag the SH02 plug in into VST host...don't worry about the lines going to the output, it should automatically do that. (There is an option in VST host called Auto-connect.)

Now, you should see the SH02 square floating in VST host, right? On the top of the SH02 square you will see some icons...

- one looks like an "i",
- one looks like a green dial with a red stripe
- one looks like a green square with a fader on it, and,
- one is a red "X" (that closes the SH02 )

PRESS THE GREEN DIAL with the red strip. Now, you will see the SH02. Play the keys on the screen. Have fun!

Once you get there, we have to figure out why your system 1 isn't working. Is it in the MIDI page of VST host? Did you click the words "system 1", and then press Ok?

Actually, if I understand that you have selected your System 1 as both "wave" (sound) and Midi, then the sound will be coming out of your System 1 outputs and headphone jack.

So you are connected to your computer via USB?
Do the above steps to open the Sh02 screen, and make sure you have the outputs on your system 1 connected to your amplifier (or headphones, or however you listen to your synthesizers....)

SUCCESS!!!!!!
Following your last post got me into the SH02. Loading the program into the System 1 took SECONDS!
Playing them was a dream!
Can't thank you enough for all your help! It's a shame manufacturers don't take into consideration that for some this would be such an easy task; while for others like myself it was a stone wall. Yes, in hindsight, it WAS simple but without proper guidance, I'd STILL be pounding my head against that wall.
Love the SH02 sounds, so much more than the presets on the System 1.
I plan to leave the Sh02 in my vsthost in the computer and play the PLUG OUT in the System1 without being connected to the computer.
With that said, a few questions:
-once I turn off the System 1 , will the PLUG OUT remain IN the unit or must I re-load each time?
-didn't have much time to play around with them, but how do I access the full range of presets? (using the 8 buttons on the System 1 was fine, but what do I do to get to the other banks?
-if, no WHEN, I get the other PLUG OUT's available, will installation be exactly the same and when I load them into the System 1 will it delete the current PLUG OUT and overwrite the new one...so I would have to re-load every time I switch PLUG OUT's?
Chiclets, if you are ever in town, I owe you a beer or two. Many thanks for your insight AND patience!!!
Thanks also for THIS forum as I am STILL waiting for a response from Roland!!!!

We're glad you got it working :)

-once I turn off the System 1 , will the PLUG OUT remain IN the unit or must I re-load each time?

The Plug Out now is in your System 1, you do not have to re-load it.

- how do I access the full range of presets?

Hold the button called "Plug-Out" on your System one, and you can select one of the eight banks. Release the button and select one of the patches with that bank. (8 banks of 8 patches, means there can be up to 64 sounds. Please be aware a lot of the plug-out banks don't have all 64 patches filled)
You can also do this with the System 1 model on your keyboard.

WHEN, I get the other PLUG OUT's available, will installation be exactly the same and when I load them into the System 1 will it delete the current PLUG OUT and overwrite the new one.

Yes, you can load another plug-out into your System 1. Each time you do, the previous one is overwritten (or replaced). Once you have done the "plug-out" procedure, you are free to disconnect the USB cable and freely use your System 1 and Plug-Out model on the synthesizer itself.
