How are the devices plugged into the MX-1's USB host ports seen by the computer? If I plug in my System-8 and FA-08, would my computer see them as System-8 and FA-08 or would they be seen as some kind of MX-1 device?
I haven't been able to find an answer for this.

They show up as MX-1 USB-1/2/3/4
Re: MX-1 USB passthrough?
So does that mean that downloading plugouts wouldn't work through the MX-1 i.e. the computer wouldn't see the System-8 as a System-8?

Actually, the Roland driver (at least on MacOS) is smart enough for this to work. I've done plugout installs through the MX-1 just fine. Also, the Modular Customizer works through it as well (even though it doesn't get the port names in the selection screen).

Re: MX-1 USB passthrough?
That helps a lot. I wasn't sure whether the MX-1 acted like a USB hub or whether it virtualized the devices behind it. It seems like it's the latter, more or less. I was worried that I'd have to plug the S8 directly into into my Mac to get it work properly with plugouts. I'm glad that's not the case. Thanks for answering my questions.

It could be nice to allow us to rename mx1 usb channels...
