Help please: Recording TR-8 sync'd in Logic Pro X

I'm trying to sync my TR-8 to Logic's clock, and it's working fine - same as in this video:

Note that the TR-8 begins to play and plays in sync upon the user pressing play in Logic.

However, when I press record in Logic, the TR-8 does not start playing. There is a 4 count, and then Logic starts recording nothing, because the TR-8 hasn't begun playing back at the first bar like it should have.

Anyone run into this and have a fix?

Ok here's what I found in case anyone else finds this useful.

Logic Pro X sends start message on Play, and on Rec. However, on Rec with a count in, no start message is sent. I have no idea why, but them's the breaks.
