Hi all,
I’ve been thinking for a while to sell my Fantom X7 (and then buy a FA06) and I was just wondering what you here think about it.
I have my Fantom X7 since around 7 years, and I used to play this as my main board when I perform live in bands, I did not ‘need’ a two-board setup.
At home I could use the sequencer to create some songs, I even shared my joy of creating songs in a Youtube-video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SdRn9i19Shw .
I have extra memory installed, and completed my X7 with these SRX-boards : Supreme Dance, Complete Orchestra, Big Brass Ensemble, World Collection
Right now my X7 is mostly at home because nowadays live I play with my Yamaha Motif XS6 and a midi-keyboard 49-keys with Mainstage on my Macbook.
I think about the FA06 (tried shortly in a local store)
Why FA06:
- Lightweight
- If I ever want to use SRX-sounds I can still use them through Axial (not all at once, I know) in the FA06
- It will be a good combination on top for a two-board live setup with my Yamaha Motif XS6 (and ,my X7 is too much in size for that )
- Good sounds
- Will use this instead of the midi-keybaord with Macbook (bigger risk of computer-issues, crash etc.)
Eventhough I may have my answer I was just wondering if you guys can share my thoughts or maybe see things different ?
Thanks in advance !
CJ
Good reasons for FA06 ?
Re: Good reasons for FA06 ?
The FA06 has become my primary keyboard for live performance.
1. The keyboard is light weight and easy to transport!
2. SuperNatural tones are pretty good and work well with live performance of most genres
I tend to rotate the second keyboard for live performance. Motif XF6, JP80, Krome, Kronos, KingKorg, JD-XA, but the FA06 is always there.
Best overall value I've ever got out of a single keyboard.

Re: Good reasons for FA06 ?
I sold my X6 and replaced with FA06 about two years ago.
One thing disapointing was the huge loading time of the samples in the Fantom.
For one show it took 7 minutes to start up. Luckily I had never problems with the power supply on stage....
Now with the FA it'll load instantly all samples with the song.
I had four SRX boards (string, brass, world, studio) which I now loaded two of them into the FA (brass, strings).
This because the FA lacks of decent natural brass and string sounds.
I have a powerfull FA with all sounds for almost every challenge on stage (think about the Super Natural sounds carried over from the Fantom G). Sample pad allow to fire some sounds like the Fantom (love the apes on Locked Out Of Heaven...).
Second, lower, board is a NORD ELECTRO where I have all beauty piano, epiano sounds and eays to use sampler.
Nord also has a huge sound library for free which is expanded continously and a great community though, with loads of samples esp. for cover bands.
