Importing Sounds to Play on Keyboard
Hi all, new here and new to the Roland FA-07 so please be gentle on me, trying to learn but have come across a major issue i seem not to be able to find out on line or anywhere else how to resolve and wonder if you FA experts can assist.
I have a sound and its a one note sound that i want to load into the Roland FA-07 and be able to play this sound on the keys of the keyboard where i can change the sound by pressing a higher or lower key on the keyboard.
Now i can load the sound into pad and have the sound play one sound on the pad sampler but i want to play the sound on the keyboard.
What am i doing wrong?
I can not see it anywhere apart from on the Sampler Pad setup but i want to load the sound into the keyboard and adjust the tone ect ect.

Re: Importing Sounds to Play on Keyboard
You cannot do that on the FA. You can play he samples loaded into the pads with the keyboard but you can't play up and down the keyboard and change the pitch of the sample.

Re: Importing Sounds to Play on Keyboard
Thank you.
Is there anyway you can load a custom made tone into the FA and play it up and down the key range, I have tone that I have tried to recreate but struggled and then had a friend created this tone on Alberton for me.
Sorry it is a dumb question to ask.

Custom made tones you create within the FA (using the samples already in the board) will automatically play up and down the key range. But if you're talking about loading custom samples, you're back to what CDA said... "You cannot do that on the FA. You can play the samples loaded into the pads with the keyboard but you can't play up and down the keyboard and change the pitch of the sample." There are keyboards that can do this, including Roland Juno DS, Casio MZ-X300/500, Nord Electro and Stage series, Korg Kronos, Yamaha MODX/Montage, Kurzweil PC4/Forte, but there are more boards that cannot do this than boards that can.JKRolandFA wrote:Is there anyway you can load a custom made tone into the FA and play it up and down the key range,
If you have an iOS device, you can load your sampled sounds into an app and trigger them from the FA the way you want (changing pitch as you go up and down the keyboard). You can do the same by connecting your FA to your computer, but using, say, an iPhone may be more convenient. The FA has a pretty decent MIDI implementation that will let you mix and match internal and external sounds together in a Studio Set.

There are no dumb questions!
Unfortunately, I do not think you can import sounds that way.

Re: Importing Sounds to Play on Keyboard
I still cannot believe that they added this to the Juno DS but didn't give us a system update to do this on the FA, which clearly has a more powerful engine and processor... such a shame. I knew going in the FA-08 didn't have it and still love my board, but having multisampling ability would be nice for the odd time!

You can also do it on the JD-XI, strange why its not on the FA range as you mention.
Re: Importing Sounds to Play on Keyboard
It is strange and annoying. However, Roland did give us the black keys version ;)

Acgually, it wasn't added to the Juno DS, the DS had that feature from its initial release. The feature was enhanced with the 2.0 upgrade, though.nathbeadle wrote:I still cannot believe that they added this to the Juno DS but

Shame it can not be added to the FA range.
Re: Importing Sounds to Play on Keyboard
I own the JD-Xi and you cannot use your own samples/multisamples in your patches. It has the same engine and limitations as the FA (which I also own).JKRolandFA wrote: ↑19:39, 8 June 2020 You can also do it on the JD-XI, strange why its not on the FA range as you mention.
Re: Importing Sounds to Play on Keyboard
crazy that the DS can read multisamples but FA cannot !
Does it mean that only Official Axial EXP library can be loaded to the FA ?
It should be possible to build a users EXP Library with external software then load it to the FA.
FA is often compared to the Yam MODX in the same price range, but on that point MODX is better.

Re: Importing Sounds to Play on Keyboard
yes
not only is there no tool for that, but also, as I understand it, the way the EXPs work is that some of the program data for them is actually pre-resident in the FA. I believe that's why you had to load a new FA system update in order to use the EXP-11 they came out with. The FA has no way to understand a new wave expansion that it doesn't already "know" about, so a new expansion requires also an OS update.
Yes. Each had advantages over the other. FA advantages include trigger pads, modeled virtual analog synth engine, some other modeled ("SuperNATURAL acoustic") sounds, assignable ("sub") output, more capable sequencer, and the ability to split/layer 16 sounds across the keyboard (instead of 8). MODX advantages include a gigabyte of user sample memory, more partials available for sampled sounds (Yamaha calls them elements), FM synth engine, 2 insert effects per sound (instead of 1), seamless sound switching among any sound combination of up to 4 Parts (FA only lets you seamlessly switch among sound combinations contained within the current 16-sound Studio Set), endless encoders (always in the "right" position instead of "jumping" or "catching"), super knob (and other "motion control" stuff), audio over USB without a custom driver (e.g. works with iPad).
