Noise/Moog Modular sounds in FA-O8

Post by LoboLives »

Hey guys, I'm having difficulty programming sounds similar to the Moog Modular in the FA-08. I'm planning on getting a Moog Sub 37 anyway but I was curious if anyone has found any good results emulating white noise loops/crackles. I'm thinking John Carpenter's early work like the white noise/hi-hat skipping sound from Assault On Precinct 13 or the shaking crackling backing track on the Halloween theme or the theme for The Fog.

Any suggestions on how to achieve this? I've experimented but it doesn't seem to be getting the result I desire. Would it be best to simply use the Moog for this and possibly some time in the future invest in a Synthesizer.com modular system.

I don't think you are missing anything. For me personally I thought I would eventually add Moog's Slim Phatty to my rig and control it with an FA-06. Rather than try to make my Roland boards sound like a Moog. For now I get by with the Roland SH-01.

The FA keyboard seems primarily designed for music or cinematic sound production. I will probably be corrected by knowledgable forum members on this though. To me the FA-06 might not be the best tool for building the raw sounds you are looking for. Not saying the FA can't. By the way I am a Roland fan. I have a Jupiter 80 and an SH-01. Personally I really like the Roland sound. For modern keyboards with reduced surface control the Roland user interface in the FA and Jupiter boards are the best implementation I've seen. The Roland logic and strategy just makes sense to me. Back to my point, every design has limitations. Ulitimately you won't likely get the Moog sound you want out of a Roland.

Maybe the Slim Phatty would be an enty point to Moog for you. Although I don't know how it compares to the Sub37. Maybe it doesn't do enough. Still the Slim Phatty is more affordable than the Sub37 and of course the Modular. Seems like a good intermediate solution to finish your project sooner and for less money. Just my opinion though.
