Hi Jost,

You mean the most anticipated synth of last year ? ;)
IMO, a 10 months delay is unacceptable. I would have cancelled my pre-order long ago if I had one.

Killer synth though, hope you'll have fun with it !

At last, I'm part of the gang !

No knobs? DARK SIDE?!!

Post by Andrew »

Yeah - too bad it doesn't have any knobs... LOL!! Geez!! That wood grain is so classy as well. It makes me drool. I wonder how close it will sound to real analog with all the new enhancements? That's probably not the point, though... (Of course, the Virus still sounds cool it's own way.)

Jost- do you have any idea on the $MSRP in US dollars?

Scroll down to listen to those dark presets!! POTENTIAL DARK MUSIC POWERHOUSE!! (Actually, those pads termed "Bright Side" are interesting as well. I, of course, would play them at a considerably lower octave!)

Somewhere, Fantomized member theologiae is very excited!!

Check it out:

Best,
Andrew

P.S. Isn't the most anticipated synth of the year the Roland Fantom X Studio? Doh! I started it again! (***officially closing the can of worms on the new, new FantomX***)

ProgD its actually the most anticipated Synth of this year because initial shipping was expected at the beginning of the year, but then it went on and on...
However, I never minded the delay, because Access wanted to get it right before releasing their new creation. Not like other companies who release unfinished and incomplete models, such as the Motif which took almost two years before it was faultless, or the Fantom which took three releases before it was fully developed. I truly respect the Access people for taking their time to release a finished product. For example, the KC has been the same model for nearly four years now and it is still a super hot Synth (and it will be for a long time to come).

Andrew, what you mean with 'No knobs'? Plenty of knobs on the Virus. Regarding the Dark Side patches, I personally don't know why they call them 'Dark Side'. There is nothing evil about them, they are just pure phatt fun. I also like the 'Bright Side'. Also, its not about sounding like a real analog. Its about producing awesome sounds.

No Access to me

Post by mickphilipps »

Sorry, but I listened to the Audio Demos on the HP from Access and CANT hear any realy brandnew Sound. 99 Percent I have heard from many other Synths included my Fantom.
So I must ask, why are you so excited about that new Piece?
To me is there nothing new on "Sound". Maybe some Technics are new made and the Connection to an Mac or PC is new.

Never forget, the Manufactures MUST sell new Products and anybody of them will tell you its an "Must-Have". But so i hear that Demo Sounds I cant found no one Reason to buy one.

Over all, I Love Synths since many Years, start with Korg 770 (?) in the late 70s, but there are only 20 Sounds I love realy.
Maybe for Dance,Techno or Trance Music it is big important to collect any Sound you can get.
Many Fun with your Access I still wish you, Jost!!!

Gruess Dich Mick

The Access sounds totally different in real life. I have got the KC to accompany my Fantom and I hear the differences every day. What the Virus can do the Fantom can't, and what the Fantom can do the Virus can't.

I agree with you, the demo patches are not a good example to go by. The demo patches about the KC sound soo much weaker then the real thing. To me (and to many others) the Virus is an awesome machine, it doesn't matter what the ads say.

Auf wiedersehen und hab einen schoenen Tag.

A joke...

Post by Andrew »

That no knobs comment was simply a joke. (As you can see in my earler reply that I followed it with LOL - laugh out loud.) This was a compliment to Access. The thing has tons of knobs and will truely be lethal.

As far as the dark side comment - I was just noting how Access labeled their published presets. (As one might speculate, there could be some potential to use these type of presets in music that focus on a darker subject matter: industrial, darkwave, EBM, etc...)

It looks like a good product and I look forward to finding out more.

Hi Andrew, regarding the knobs, the SupernovaII beats everything there is on the market - its a paradise for tweaking. The Virus C is not as user friendly as the Supernova and takes quite a while to get used to. But the patience pays off in the end.

Regarding the 'Dark Side', the Virus is King of Industrial - its like a sharp metal blade that chops every mix to pieces. The Virus is actually quite difficult to work with in this respect as it easily dominates the mix and then you are tempted to tone it down to give other instruments some breathing space. This is the reason why I like the Fantom, because the Roland sounds are well equipped to balance the beast.

hey andrew,
i am exited, but more then that i am broke. i can't even buy a 1 gig compact flash right now.
but fuck it, the more time i send with the fantom, the more i learn how to make what i want with what i have. i just built a mixing table with my line 6 delay tweeking a tape deck and a tuner at the same time. cheep but crazy as far as sound goes.
maybe i'll get a grant to make music, or some art commission....oh hell, i need to get that out......where's my resume.....

Yeah - I've heard some great stuff from the Line 6 products. They are certainly a great way to mess up your sound on purpose!

By the way theologiae, if you had to pick one Skinny Puppy CD to have with you on a desert island - what would it be? The condition would be you can't pick VIVISectVI!! What would be your desert island Skinny Puppy CD?

Looking forward to buying The Greater Wrong of the Right Live DVD coming soon to a store near you!

Can some of you tell me if the Vsynth-XT and the Virus-TI are comparable to each other...

I definitely will have one of them.
But hey.... we are all Roland fans here, ehh ;)

Do have the X6 .. NOW ;)

Hi there

I won't be purchasing one..I really do think that Access treated their loyal customers with distain with the wall of silence they built up..

I also had pre-ordered a TI but luckily i decided to hold off until i received it before i sold my C..Needless to say i cancelled..not because of the product, but because of the company

I think Access are hoping that everyone will forget their lack of interest in it's customer base with the release of the synth..

Check out any Virus forum and you'll see what i mean

I am sure it will rock and i am indeed envious of anyone who will purchase one..Jost :-p

But i still have a very sour taste in my mouth over the entire delay and lack of info..

I am not intending to take the shine of anyone thinking of purchasing.. Access make great synths.. I Love my Virus C..

But as a matter of principle.. i'll pass on the TI, and hopefully Access will learn

Hi aurora,

I know what you are saying - I placed my order in November 2004, but the delay never really bothered me. I just continued to explore my KC and its compatibility with the Fantom, believing that Access had a valid reason of not releasing the TI.

I personally would have disliked a proto-type release - an unfinisehd product that reaches completion in the next model - similar to the way Yamaha treated the Motif and even Roland to a certain extent with the three Fantoms.

We can't say much about the TI yet, but I think its such complicated beast that it needed all the extra time. Obviously time will tell if the people will accept it and if the TI will live up to its hype. I certainly won't turn my back on Access - I am not upset with them at all. I think they are a bunch of hard working Sound designers and Electronics freaks who are completely immersed in their little world and who have nothing else in mind than to create the ultimate Synth.

Cheers
Jost
