Hi
Been searching the JP80 a while for the key pitch follow function a la JD800, JD990, XV5080 etc. Am I out of luck? If so could someone please advise on a method of re-creating the effect of this, ie vastly different scales/pitches for each tone in a liveset?
Also any way of disabling the EXTREMELY sensitive reg buttons along the bottom? I am utterly sick of spending ages on a complicated edit only to lose it all because I happen to inadvertantly brush against one!
Thanks,
Doc
Key Pitch Follow??
Re: Key Pitch Follow??
It's unbelievable, but Roland has dumbed down the SN synth engine too much in this regard and there is no way of achieving this function, which even the old D-50 from 1987 is offering!doctorrock wrote: Been searching the JP80 a while for the key pitch follow function a la JD800, JD990, XV5080 etc. Am I out of luck? "Disabling the Registration Buttons
The JUPITER-80’s settings will change if you press a Registration
button unintentionally or switch Registration Sets.
Use the “Registration Button Lock” function if you don’t want the
Registration buttons to switch Registrations while you perform.
1. In the MENU screen (p. 34), touch <Regist Button Lock>.
The Registration Button Lock screen will appear.
2. Touch <LOCK>.
The Registration buttons will be disabled.
3. Press [EXIT] button.
MEMO
• To enable the Registration buttons, release Registration Button
Lock (touch <UNLOCK>).
• Even when Registration Button Lock is on, you can still switch
Registrations by operating the touch panel or the top panel.
• The state of Registration Button Lock is not saved. It will
automatically be UNLOCK when you turn on the power.
• When Registration Button Lock is on, a “Lock” symbol is shown
by the Registration name."

Re: Key Pitch Follow??
Thanks for your help Dany re the buttons. For some reason I missed this in the manual!
With regard to the key pitch follow, that really is an terrible oversight on Roland's part. Not altogether surprising though, I feel the JP80's immense potential is hamstrung by some pretty ill-thought-out design/workflow/implementation decisions.
Another function I am missing is the variable random pitch (wonderful!) of the older synths. I guess the analog feel function does pretty much the same thing but it's usefulness would be so much greater were it able to be applied on a tone by tone - or better still partial by partial - basis.

Re: Key Pitch Follow??
I guess as you are aware, there is still the standard LFO per Partial, where you can choose the random (RND) shape to achieve random pitch changes, seperately for each of the 3 Partials...doctorrock wrote:...Another function I am missing is the variable random pitch (wonderful!) of the older synths. Re: Key Pitch Follow??
Once again, thank you Dany for this. I'm not with my Jupiter at the moment so I can't try it but I'm guessing you can set the LFO to retrigger with every note? Assuming you can do that the problem is that if the LFO is running, even at the slowest speed, wouldn't that change the pitch DURING the note too? Which is obviously not the desired effect. Now see if you can come up for a work around to the lack of pitch key follow.....!
Re: Key Pitch Follow??
Yes, you can set the LFO key trigger "On" in Pro Edit mode and you can easily achieve the desired effect, by using the LFO S&H Shape (instead of the above suggested LFO RND Shape) and by setting the LFO Rate to "0".doctorrock wrote:... Now, if you set a low LFO Pitch Depth, every Synth Partial of a played note will be triggered with a slightly different random detune, but it will KEEP the pitch DURING the played note, as you wished...

Re: Key Pitch Follow??
Aha! LFO rate set to 0! Yes, that works - of course you can't do that with analogue LFOs! Once again Dany, many thanks for your help.
