Re: Keyboard magazine leak
Most people on this site wouldn't recognize the original Jupiter if it ran them over on the street. All they probably have seen are soft synths or other incarnations. And too, the same whiners who complain about "analog" circuitry, knobs and faders, blah, blah, blah, are the first to run and buy patch libraries because they are too damn lazy or uneducated to program a synth themselves. The original Jupiter was a performance instrument. You had to be a real-musician to play it. The reason why IMO Roland stopped making ARX cards is that there weren't enough capable enough musicians to play them, so hence the sales went down and they stopped investing that R&D Into them. Roland has always supported real musicians. Not the Korg kind who need toys or iPad gimmicks to make and squeak music. Basically, the 21st Century musicians is has gotten kind of lazy and wants a "workstation" disguised as an arranger where they can mask their lack of creativity with a bunch of presets sounds and ready make "styles". (Like the motif or Karma.) Or, delude themselves that a keyboard should be ProTools inside a MIDI controller. Roland's always made musical instruments. You actually have to sit your butt down, read some music and play them. What people are freaking out on others threads IMO is that the Jupiter won't cover up their lack of musicianship. It's not meant for the synth geek relies on his/her computer to make the music. I have a feeling that this is the embodiment of everything promised ARX, but people will diss it up and down because they are INTIMIDATED by it because they will actually have to have some musical skills to play it. LOLZ. I can't wait for the new Jupiter. Me thinks it's going to shake up some stuff in this static, sequencer heavy, world that has become pop music. Personally, the price tag should be high, so it rats out the non-musicians from the real ones. Every classic Roland synth has made you actually play it, from the Juno 60, to the Juno-106, to the JP-8000 to the V-Synth.
Re: Keyboard magazine leak
I think most people here are not complaining about the Jupiter-80's lack of sequencer or arranger capabilities but rather the lack of a fully tactile interface found on earlier synths like the Jupiter 8 or even the JD-800 which used mainly sliders and other controls to edit with. I must admit that I would have loved for Roland to make a new updated version of the Jupiter 8. Who would not? The new Jupiter is just that- A new Jupiter. This kind of reminds me of automobiles. Example: How great is a Thunderbird from 1995 compared to a 1958? Both have the same names but are totally different machines. Sure the newer one may have a few design elements that are a nod to the past but standards and technology change. My motto when it comes to cars is if you like the classic go buy the classic. Now Jupiters are getting more difficult to find and cost $$$. The new Junos are the same as the auto example. The new Junos have nothing in common with the old ones and I own both (Juno-60, Juno-106(My first synth) and Juno-G and Juno Di.)I think in this case if we like the original maybe we need to acquire an original. I am still waiting to see what this new Jupiter will do and also what other products/synthesizers Roland will come up with.
Re: Keyboard magazine leak
Judging by this Jupiter80 forum and also by the Kronos, people make harsh statements about an instrument that isn't even available yet. No wonder manufacturers try to keep their new products secret until the last moment, people immediately try and persuade others to not purchase it.
Be excited, we want new synth's, stop dis'ing what you don't know and if it's expensive, well charge it.
While I do agree, Roland instruments seem to generally require more work (or musicianship), this does not mean Motif's or Karma are toys. There just different approaches.

There's a picture much more real about Jupiter-80:

Re: Keyboard magazine leak
If it was like you said, Roland has always supported real musicians, I guess that's why first ARX was drum kit? I believe none of us "musicians" couldn't live without additional drum card? That's what's been missing most on our Fantom during our live performance? And too, the same whiners who complain about "analog" circuitry, knobs and faders, blah, blah, blah, are the first to run and buy patch libraries because they are too damn lazy or uneducated to program a synth themselves. And was it that hard to set v-piano inside ARX-02 as well? It would justify its high price.
And then, after EP, brass stuff? With all due respects but what's all that big deal with brass on synths? If not ARX "analog synth" orchestral sounds would be more useful than a card full of brasses. But lemme guess, we will get ARX full of strings, and then ARX full of winds. And will have to pay 800€ for full orchestral setup. Sorry but lets face it - ARX are way narrow and wrong chosen to justify its investment.
Provide ARX-04 to be whole SH-01 and ARX-05 to be orchestral and you'll see that it would be sold as much as ARX-01 but twice as ARX-03
Re: Keyboard magazine leak
You'll be surprised to know that SH-01 is actually based on the Fantom-G's synth engine, but is less powerful (less tones, less options, less modulation possibilities, less waveforms, less effects), although it is more accessible and easy to program (and that's it's beauty). So you want to pay a few hundred bucks for a cut down copy of what you already have?wladymeer wrote:Provide ARX-04 to be whole SH-01
Re: Keyboard magazine leak
Art,
i do not see many knobs and buttons on the Jupiter as would relate to sound creation.. would you say that patch creation is more menu-diving like on the fantom vs "left to right" like on the Gaia?..

Re: Keyboard magazine leak
According to what I have seen, the editor is very close to the SH-01 panel. So it's definitely more attractive and easier to use for most people.
Re: Keyboard magazine leak
Based on price and info available to date..
if you had $3000 and wanted to spend it.. It would`nt make more sense to get a Kronos with its variety of synth engines and capabilities?

Re: Keyboard magazine leak
wow! what happen to our lovely Picture? maybe the magazine guy would be generous enough to post a good picture up. its about two more days and soon- someone here will get a better picture up and they will be remembered as our J-80 hero. LOL!
then, I guess someone else will even explain it well on the specifics in and out details... oh wait a minute, manual pdf will be up too...ok never mind.LOL!
Anyways, I am so wanting them to release ARX-04, 05, 06 cause no matter what the cost is, I think its a great concept and idea.
hopefully this XR have to do with both J-80 and FG since it seems that the Screens are about the same in which is good for ARX editing...:D or this XR have a RS232pinout for monitor and a mouse to edit ARX cards or build in supernatural sounds which seems the new concept for Roland to make up on their ARX card contract which may as well in the millions of $ investments.
Its like- if the actual Card don't sell, why not build-in to their line of product across the border - even sonar got two slots.
Its like what do you do with these investment/overheads kind of thing. Instead of loosing money straight up on ARX-card, switch it to build-in concept and actually rake in more money that way.
Meaning reselling existing lines with this supernatural technology. So, in other word, this technology actually rejuvenate all their existing lines.
I guess, This technology do have SUPERNATURAL POWER in it. :D
Just look at it, you got V-Piano, Vsynth-GT, All the new line of Stage piano's celebrating and guess what, even Jupiter powering up again.
So, now hopefully this should balance out their initial profit/lost sales statement by now.
Thanks to our FG flagship it done its part in helping other lines boosted up but now it should be time to get some rewards... give us some ARX- CARD man and that 2.0 update that others asking for (which I have no idea for what LOL! ) anyways two more days. :D

Re: Keyboard magazine leak
Well, i think the jury is out .. lots of folks buy the nord stage at $3500 simply due to the organs & piano alone.. so if the J80 has killer sounds it will sell well regardless...
I had written a bunch on why i dont like the kronos.. including flat orientation of display and small touchscreen buttons, however if i ignore the workstation part and think from a performance synth perspective..ie good piano, organs, strings, brass and add a great synth.. then i think you are right.. but since we havent actually heard either of them yet for real then it will be a good debate.

Re: Keyboard magazine leak
I still hold true to the fact that no matter what any manufacturer does anymore, the basement dwellers of the blogosphere will bash it without any fact or substance -- unless I guess they are given the product outright as a bribe of some sort. Blogs and forums don't have to source their statements, adhere to any journalistic standards and no one seems to want to hold their own membership to fact checking. The real story here is that the blogs that leaked these rumours are in fact the one's to be blamed -- not Roland. The downside of this is that probably every major manufacturer will stop having anything to do with blogs or forums because of this kind of irresponsible behavior. Hacking into a server or stealing information from a magazine or a manufacturer isn't journalism and it does our community a huge disservice. So IMO there's a lot of misdirected anger here. The leakers are no better then third rate paparazzi, Perez Hilton or the so-called "Anonymous" group. You should be complaining at their sites about their lack of ethics. But that's the world we live in. No one reads the real news anymore, everyone reads a blog that supports their opinions (not the real facts) and thus everyone gets divided into camps and cyber communities turn into angry torch carrying mobs. And the fun and creativity of making music gets lost altogether.
Re: Keyboard magazine leak
as a nord stage owner... many people buy the stage at $3500 because it is a unique instrument with no alternatives. Btw, it is a full organ clone with 9 virtual drawbars and all the bells and whistles of the organ, so it is not enough to have killer B3 sounds but you also need the interface to control it. What's more, the stage has a very high build quality and an operating system without bugs (though much simpler than a workstation OS).Mystic38 wrote:Well, i think the jury is out .. lots of folks buy the nord stage at $3500 simply due to the organs & piano alone.. so if the J80 has killer sounds it will sell well regardless...
This is to say that this J80 will sell if it can offer something that users cannot find elsewhere, something that users will be willing to pay for. What's more, since you're in the $3000 range, build quality and software must be flawless (and this hasn't been the case with many recent roland instruments).
If it is just a nord stage clone it will have a difficult life.
