ROLAND and the big three has lost it!

Post by traxio »

I think that the hardware synth market is dead! Roland , Yamaha and Korg has lost the innovation!

If Roland had put out a Access Virus TI killer they be the KING of SYNTH as before!

Now the Fantom G is way behind the Korg M3 and Yamaha XS in features!

I cant understand the market these days! it is just recycling old Workstations but with bigger displays and sampling memory!

Just like mobilephone market today.

ROLAND put out a new real synth like JP 800! with 256 voices and the same fx rout as Access Virus TI and you would kill the competition!

V-synth is not good enough today ROLAND!!!!

I am disappointed!

I would buy the G if it had Pattern Sequencer, more FX, more and better Filters and the ability to make your own Arpeggios!

I know you can make it ROLAND!!! l

Lsten to your users what they want and you will sell plenty!

Answer to this forum and implement this features PLEASE!

Everybody who is buying Workstations dont do Hip Hop Crap music!

A Workstation should be able to do everything a software plug in synth do these days, otherwice it is not a Workstatio!, just a performance keyboard for crap music like POP or Hip Hop=dont do your own music, just steal from others!

And act as a fool and you think you are a bad ass criminal! sorry but I think it is the most stupud music in the buisiness!

A synth is a synth and it should be tweaked as before in the days= Vangelis, Tanngerine Dreams, Kraftwerk, IDM, Glitch music and some others!

You have the tech ready, why not implement it in some huge synth=REAL synth Workstation!

I have to talk to Elektron or Clavia, and they may be doing it= a real Synth Groovebox, they are the real innovators now.

I have the D-50 and JX-8P and I love them but I need some new stuff that can do all they can plus more.

Access Virus TI , Clavia and Elektron is the real innovators today but I want something from the former number one ROLAND now!=a real SYNTH!! like JP8000.

I am not angry just tired of the recycling and people is just satisfied with that and no complains at all!

Put some pressure on the Big Three and they may be oing something innovativehardware in the future or software?

Anybody thinking the same or?

Sorry dude...but Roland didn't make the Fantom G for Hip Hop. It is useless for Hip-hop..coming from a guy that loves Hip Hop.

I did not read the entire post, but Roland did a few good things for Namm and there will be more coming eventually.

They updated the awesome V-Synth, Created a cool new Piano and a cool Keytar amound other things.

The G is the newest of the 3 Big Workstations, so it not really behind in updates. The G has only been out for 7 months.

Oh! I forgot!

Roland!
The Demos of your synths (workstations) you put out on your homepage is crap= just HIp Hop and RnB crap, no Trance, House, Electro , IDM or Ambient Demos that are any good.

Listen to some of the best artists like= Sasha, Armin van Buuren, DJ Tiesto and like,or some other Synth tweakers that do a real synth Demo of your produkt to let the real synth sounds out of your Workstations.

Why make a Demo with a guitarist or a bassist? it is a Synth for good sake! they cant even play the keyboard, they just jam vith the Arpeggios or make some crappy RnB or Hip Hop shit!

Sorry ROLAND but you have the worst Demos of all Workstation makers! Listen to and see the Yamaha Motif XS and Bert Smorenburg, well he doesnt do any good new music (IDM, Ambient, Trance, House music) but he is really god and professional!

artemiy! you are the only who can demo a sytnth in a really interesting way! and you can tweak sounds!

GREAT artemiy! you should do all Roland Demos!

Fantom G is a Synth! and it should be a synth! the users who complain about the piano sounds and so, should buy a digital piano or a real piano!

I hope that Roland reads this, and this is not an angry shit just an opinion I have.

artemiy! can you please make a real synth demo of the Fantom G in a modern way?

Thanks!
I may buy this G if Roland just can put it togeather really good in a future update!

dude if you're not happy with the G now then don't buy it in the future.

go out and find what works for you.

A Workstation should be able to do everything a software plug in synth do these days, otherwice it is not a Workstatio!,

It sounds like all you need is a controller and software for what you want. You'll never find all that potential in a hardware package. It would be way too expensive.

music gear is just a collection of tools. It's not the tools that builds houses but the people who use them.

The Amish build some pretty cool houses with simple tools. Likewise I've seen top quality muso's create music from some simple and cheap instruments.

like your opinion it is just my opinion.........

Making claims like that makes you look totally ignorant.,..

V-Synth was light years ahead 5 years ago, and still no one can match what you can do with VariPhrase. If you don't know what this technology is - it's your own fault. VariPhrase is amazing and is the key to almost 50% of what I do for my sound developments and music.
artemiy! you are the only who can demo a sytnth in a really interesting way! and you can tweak sounds!
Thank you for the compliments ;-) I will try to come up with some demos in the nearest future.

Put down the crack pipe. Just because the M3 and Motif may do a handful of things the G may not doesn't take into account the many dozens of things the G does that the M3 and Motif can't come close to pulling off.

16 vs. 128 track sequencer? 0 vs. 24-track audio recording? Bueller?
V-synth is not good enough today ROLAND!!!!
I'm with Artemiy. The V-Synth line is amazing. It's the only digital synth that can't easily be replaced with softsynths. Incredibly unique. I'd go as far to say it's one of the most innovative synth products of the past ten years.
I would buy the G if it had Pattern Sequencer...
Uh... It does. Phrases can contain up to 64 parts, and any phrase can be placed on any track at any time.
I have to talk to Elektron or Clavia, and they may be doing it= a real Synth Groovebox, they are the real innovators now.
Yawn... Elektron is a one or two-trick pony (and only useful for specific genres of music) and Clavia's only claim to fame is the first widely available VA, over ten years ago. Hell, their own Nord Stage keyboard is a complete rip-off of Roland's own VR-760 (look it up).

If you're looking for cutting-edge craziness, why on earth would you look at keyboard workstations anyway? You're not the market. It's like bitching that Ferraris suck off-road.
Sasha, Armin van Buuren, DJ Tiesto...
Oh yeah, quintessential workstation guys. Ha! Excuse me while I wipe DaRude from my shoe with a stick.

traxio: I may disagree in many things, but you're absolutely right about one thing: The demo songs that come with the Fantom-G (not the ones on the Roland website, but those that were into the machine once you boot it) really suck. They have some cool examples by how to integrate midi and audio in its sequencer, but it's pretty much it.
I remember the times when Eric Persing from Spectrasonics used to work for Roland. The demo songs for Roland gear used to be real masterpieces (I recall some really cool tracks he made for XP50).
When I first searched into my Fantom-G's sequencer for demo songs, I was unpleasantly surprised.
Well, it's not the end of the world, but I felt I should report it.

I totally agree on the demos! In the XP-50 and XP-80, they were simply fabulous works! And they really did show the synths at their best.

Art: I'm planning on recreating "Meaning of life" and "Prince of Peace" with the Fantom-G. I don't know when I'll find some time to do this, but when I will, I'll definately upload it for the Clan to give it a listen! :-)

I think you could hook up a rented XP-50 to the G via MIDI and record the notes this way. However, they did a lot of patch changes and even effects setup changes on the fly.

Art: I think I won't need to rent an XP50, since I still have it and it works fine. :-)

Oh man... sometimes I want to buy my XP-80 back! I think the guy I sold it to still has it. This board gives me memories of some of the best times I had with a music instrument. *sniff*
