A promotional opportunity for your music
A promotional opportunity for your music
What's up everybody....it's been a second since I've been on here.
I wanted to get at you guys about an opportunity for some of you.
I've been tabbed by a former boss to be the music director for a new website based out of Chicago, IL. We're going to be selling various products and services. One way we're trying to draw attention to this site is to offer footage, taped by our production staff, of girls doing strip shows. These girls are looking at this as a way to promote themselves. This is going to be on the same level as playboy...nothing too graphic or explicit. I've been asked to oversee the collection and placement of music that would go in the background of the footage.
I'm basically looking for music that would make a girl want to dance seductively. That's it. It can be hip hop, house, techno, reggaeton, samba, merengue, whatever...just not dull and boring or moppy.
Since you guys have always been willing to help me with my fantom and also talk about whatever, I want to try to help get your name out in the states. If any of you guys are interested, then I want to extend an invitation to you to send me a few tracks that you feel are suitable and also some links to websites or anything else.
I want to promote artists or groups that are making a proactive effort to promote themselves already. This exposure will be very useful to you unless you aren't promoting yourself. Along with the music playing, your info will be displayed, links to your other online presences will be listed and we're probably going to make a small bio page to allow some pics, logos, info, stuff like that....and of course we can sell your music through the site as well.
Thanks in advance and I hope to hear from some of you guys.

Re: A promotional opportunity for your music
Dear Michael,
thank you very much for posting this.
I will of course help you out with making the thread more visible. First, I changed the subject to "A promotional opportunity for your music". Next, it's a sticky so it will be visible to all at the top of Free Zone and unread posts. And finally, I can also announce this in the next newsletter.
In exchange for this, I would ask you to give me a lifetime free entrance to these shows
Good luck!
Thanks again,
Artemiy.

Re: A promotional opportunity for your music
man....If we start doing the damn thing, I'm going to put you on staff.
I need a good synth engineer plus someone with good connections in europe.
And also if you know anybody with at least a couple songs that fit the type we're looking for and also have other music that they want to sell through us, let me know. I want to give first dibs to anybody that I've got some sort of relation to.
I appreciate it too man.

A new low in the Fantom community
I am very disheartened to read about the promotional "opportunity" being offered to Fantom/Roland users. The Forum has officially succumbed to the rampant celebration of mediocrity so prevalent in our society. "Not too graphic..." Yeah. Right. I'm now going to have to send a letter to the countless students (and parents)I have turned on to your site warning them that they will be seeing info about strip shows and inappropriate language (see the Czar's opening greeting - *%it). Also needing to be warned are the Church musicians and music ministers.
This is not about being prudish but is all about having a forum that was safe for children, teens, and individuals of good taste. Why not have a separate "R" rated forum for the lower class people?

Re: A promotional opportunity for your music
Well, I now see your point Sloane. Although I do not mind Czar sending me a few free tickets to the shows
, I understand that this is a little sort of explicit for part of our forumites. I would like our mods to jump in and say what we should do with this thread. Lock it, or delete it... I am not sure.

Re: A promotional opportunity for your music
Well, I see nothing wrong in the original proposal itself. There are no links to questionable sites or contents otherwise. When I first read the proposal a month ago it did not even enter my mind as inappropriate.
I am absolutely certain that 100% of our readers have heard about strip clubs before the came to the Roland Clan, and they certainly did not learn anything new here, so I dont see any problem. "Good taste" is such a subjective and relative term that if you start censoring posts by it you are starting to go down a fairly slippery slope, IMO.
There is little use for explicit language, though. Even though I think the word used is fairly innocent.
I guess my liberal scandinavian mindset is shining through here.

Re: A promotional opportunity for your music
Art,
Thanks for at least being open to the possibility that - in this particular Forum - some folks may find strip show content offensive. I've already gotten 4 emails - all guys btw, regarding this. All are in agreement that this is not the place to be advertising/promoting that particular form of entertainment.
And Tzoid, the fact that "100% of the readers have heard about strip clubs" is relevant to what exactly? By your logic since 100% of the readers have heard about porn movies, that too should not be excluded as approriate content. That's pretty scary reasoning. And yes, good taste can be subjective. But good manners, which is what we're talking about here, is the first mark of good breeding and reflect directly on a person’s upbringing. Good manners is based on the consideration of other people. And I'm sure that still applies even in "liberal Scandinavia."
I'm not trying to pick a fight here gentlemen. But I suppose I am suggesting censoring, if that's what it takes to eliminate profanity and a strip club job board on this site. (!)
Thank you all for graciously hearing me out. And, oh, if you're desperate enough to take the gig with the Czar, I strongly suggest you get a deposit. In cash.

Re: A promotional opportunity for your music
Artemio,
I agree for the most part with tzoid. When I initially saw the original post, no alarms went off. Czar said that nothing too graphic or explicit was going on. I can't vouch for that, having not seen the finished product. But that doesn't matter. . . and I'll explain why I think so.
First off, there are no links to any explicit, illegal, or graphic sites posted. Also, there was no real 'info' about strip clubs posted. Czar was just letting anyone interested know what the music would be used for. The choice to participate is left up to the individual.
If this was someone who was totally new to the Fantomized community, I would have raised an eyebrow. Czar has been here awhile and knows our philosophy. Bette Midler started out doing bathhouses (and nothing happens in those, right?).
Many other successful musicians have played 'clubs of ill repute' while trying to make it big. I'm a Jazz musician, and we all know that Jazz has an early history of being played in brothels, etc., because that was where the opportunity to play was.
But this is about the Forum content and what we allow to be posted here. I solved the language issue as I have in other posts. . . I deleted the language that could be considered offensive. As for the opportunity, I say let it stand. It's indeed a slippery slope if we delete posts because a strip show is mentioned. If this would have spawned any posts that could be deemed objectionable or offensive, we could have deleted/locked, but I see no real reason to do that at this point.
I personally think that warning folks about the Roland Clan site because of this thread is a bit of an overreaction, but that's my opinion, and I can respect Sloane's opinion, also. But let's admit it, this site is probably one of the cleanest music forums on the Internet. We've been accused of overt censorship, and the like, many times. But this isn't one of the times that would warrant it.

Re: A promotional opportunity for your music
Hey all!
Well, tzoid and bassman have good points, and now this reminds me folks who got irritated by other folks that post religious stuff in their signatures. I think this had even more resonance than Czar's post. And I think this is strictly personal, and objectively if you do not like something just do not look at it...
Sorry I simply have no time for this kind of "good - bad" discussions, so I stay on the same side with my mods.

Re: A promotional opportunity for your music
Just a small though about this:
I must admit I was a bit surprised by Czar's proposal in the first place but could hardly find it offensive. Having 2 small kids I think I understand Sloane's worries but its hard to draw the thin line between right and wrong. So far this Forum has been extremely polished doing it. The rest it's up to each other to filter. As an example, we could consider the "DOES BEERS" thread (no links here
) has a call for over-drinking. A quick look at it and we'll see that even non-alcool drinkers are able to come by and share a good moment -This says it all.
Cheers

Fix, great point which is also well-said!
