NAMM 2011 rumors and news.
I have no news, so I'll start a rumor or two:
[NOTE: THESE ARE RUMORS. IN FACT, THEY'RE MORE LIKE SCIENCE FICTION, because I HAVE NO WAY to corroborate ANY of it,. You can blame me for having an over-active imagination -- but you cannot blame me for wanting this stuff, because it would all be SO @#$%! COOL...!!!]
Garritan will finally release their long-anticipated Garritan Strings product, which will let the user (finally) play four amazing strings -- including the Strad, the Gofriller, and a Viola and DoubleBass.
Roland will release software VST versions of all of their famous synths and drum machines, including the 909, 808, Juno 106, and Jupiter 8.
Steinberg will release a keyboard that maps all controls to their software, including all sequencer and synth functions, thus obviating the need for a mouse when using sequencers like Cubase and Nuendo.

Hi PauloF.
There is only one sRa! (Thank God!)
I had to delete a section of my original post . . . It's burdens like this that weigh heavily upon my shoulders . . . Quite frankly, it's a big pain in the [Deleted by secret Roland agent].
See? I can never say anything! All I was going to say was [Deleted by secret Roland agent].

From Lorraine Vogel at Fairlight:
It’s official. Fairlight Instruments will be at Winter NAMM from 13th – 16th January 2011 in Anaheim, California.
This is real. I got it in an email sent to me. You don't have to believe me, but if I'm lying, then I won't be able to compl
(Just kidding. Seriously -- they claim that they'll really be there.)

Re: NAMM 2011 rumors and news.
Here we go again...
What is a topic about rumors without a countdown?
Problem solved!
http://www.rolandconnect.com/
Now those anxious for a new rompler or workstation can count the seconds!
In the last years most stuff had been pretty boring, so I don't expect anything revolutionary. To me, the great thing is that every year when the new stuff comes out, a lot of great gear that isn't top anymore, will end up on Ebay at great prices and people like me will have a feast!

M-Audio will release the new VENOM synth which is said to combine the warmth of vintage synthesizers with digital soundprocessing.

This one?
http://www.synthtopia.com/content/wp-content/uploads/20...
Looking at the name, it looks like an attempt to cash in the Access Virus. Specs goes at:
* 49-note, full-size keyboard
* 12-voice virtual analog synthesizer
* Editor software included
* Integrated audio interface
* Intuitive top-panel controls
I really don't think it's going to be more than just another VA on the market. By the way, it is impossible to have the warmth of vintage synths on a digital synth. Put a Moog side-by-side by side with any VA on the market and hear the difference. That's just another marketing hype trying to get noobies...

Re: NAMM 2011 rumors and news.
I know, I was just quoting the announcement.
From the moment the CD started replacing the LP right up to this moment I have always felt that digital sounds cold and harsh.
Although I learned to live with it I never have grown to like it.
Often have I been told that this is because 'I was not used to hearing the amount of detail present in a digital signal because analog sounds muddled', but I don't agree.
I think a lot (not all) could be improved by choosing a different sampling method as opposed to the standard 16/24 bit 44.1-192 kHz PCM method, and sample at a much higher frequency.
I have not listened to KORG's DSD-recorder yet, which uses a 1-bit recording at 5.6 MHz, but since KORG will be launching an audio interface for the computer soon based on this DSD technology I am very curious to hear some of the results.

Re: NAMM 2011 rumors and news.
Let the marketing hype continue...KORG Kronos:
"Prepare to be amazed"
I just hope that on the 13th, this doesn't translates in:
"Prepare o be dissapointed"

That looks... well... I don't know WHAT it looks like.
I do know that Fairlight will be there, and they will be showing their new 30A.
- Sammy
P.S. Okay "one instrument that can blah blah blah..." yeah right. Here are the products that they said the same thing about:
Korg Karma
Spectrasonics Omnisphere
Kurzweil K2500
Yamaha SY99
...and the list goes on...
Don't get me wrong -- those are all great products, and could find their way into almosst any studio setup. I just cast a jaundiced eye toward anyone claiming that their product is going to be the "be all and end all" product.
