Hi !

I've just bought a new E/A guitar (Yamaha APX) and I want to sample it. But I get a poor level (less than 0 db). And if I changed gain, I get nothing but a deep breathing...

Does anyone sample guitar and have advice to share ?

You need to changed the MIX IN to Microphone, have you tried this?

And I obtained a deeper breathing !

How are you connecting the guitar to the Fantom? I've connected my electric guitar via a standard 1/4 inch phono cable from the guitar output jack to the AUDIO INPUT (Left) jack on the Fantom-X and it worked fine. Ensure your cable is working (by plugging it into an amp) and that the volume on the pick-ups on the guitar are turned up.

I tryed my E/A guitar and a friend of mine an electric guitar as well. Actually there is an audible input signal, which - alas ! - contains much breath (especially with "Microphone" preset) when you raise input gain or volume.

This apparently comes from the inputs, when the input signal is low. I've got no problem with "Line in" presets when I plug another synth in input, in which case input signal is louder.

Does anyone know how to have a better signal level for a guitar ?

This should work fine. I've used both electric guitar and semi-acoustic Mandolin though the Fantom's input. If you are still not getting enough signal, then run the guitar though an FX pedal, stomp box or preamp first then plug that into the Fantom's input. If you don't have a pedal, then this cheap little marvel will sort you out for this purpose:

Thanks for your good advice. Actually electric guitar signal is more audible than the E/A guitar signal. Well I may try a preamp booster or something.

I had a bit of trouble simlar to this with my takemine A/E.
Then I realised I hadnt changed the battery for 5 years.
Once I put the new battery in it was considerably louder (DOH!!)
I obviously kicked myself but it had me stumped for a couple of days

Yeah, i was just going to mention the battery. Ours (a takemine too actually) just died, and it took me a few to figure out what was going on...
