I tried to load the .mid files (syx format) from the patches section into my Fantom-XR via external sequencer (XR has no built-in sequencer).
Sequencer Midi Out -> Fantom-XR Midi In, Connection ok, Data transfer takes place, no new sound is indicated on Fantom-XR.
Yes I read the infos on Patches Section.
Keep in mind that on Fantom-XR only Standard Midi Files can be played, so it makes no sense to transfer the .mid to user memory or card via USB (to the /ROLAND/SEQ/SNG directory) as described.
What's wrong ?
Any XR user there who was more successful with .mid files ?
P.S.: The patches in library format work excellent.

Re: Tried to load patches from this site to Fantom-XR -> no
I got a XR, and I can play .mid files on the module alone.
At last, I'm part of the gang !

ProgressiveD, that's not the point.
I tried to transfer patch data as .mid files in sysex format to my XR in order to check out the patches.
Any other help available ?

Re: Tried to load patches from this site to Fantom-XR -> no
There are two types of MIDI files with sounds:
1. Librarian MIDI file. This has to be played into the XR when the XR is put into Librarian mode (MENU -> Librarian on keyboard models).
2. SysEx dump MIDI file. This works straight away like you did.

Thanks for the info.
My next problem is - how can I find out if the MIDI file is a Librarian or SysEx file, cause the extension is the same and there is no hint in the patches section. Do I have to analyse the file data structure or is there an easier way ?

Re: Tried to load patches from this site to Fantom-XR -> no
The Midi file used by the librarian is a SysX Midi file. The only thing is FX librarian/editor read its own SysX Midi file. XV SysX midi file seem to be compatible(some are not though) but not JV series SysX files.
You can not tell which is which. Test load it to Librarian.(duh..)Go to Midi file editor program like Sonar and open SysX data. FX series has distinct start/end signature bytes. Search this forum. Nsheldon discussed detail about this SysX.

Re: Tried to load patches from this site to Fantom-XR -> no
I got it.
My approach was too complicated.
I tried to play .mid files with a midi file player into my FXR but that's not necessary.
It's very easy to import .mid files into Fantom-X Librarian or Patch-Editor Software and transfer the selected patch to Fantom-XR with the write command.
No knowledge about Sysex-Format needed - just load and go.
Thank you very much for help.
