Better Piano Sound?

Post by madmanXwater »

Hi,

I'm a Fantom Xa and a Motif ES8 owner. I use the ES8 in my home studio and the Xa on the gig, I play guitar 60% of the night and like the portability of a "synth" keyboard. I do however prefer the piano sounds of the ES8 and am looking for a way to get a more "Yamaha like" sound for the Xa. I picked up the Xa because I also like many of the other Roland sounds and didn't want to just duplicate the ES8 sounds by getting an ES6 for the gig.

Can anyone recommend a library for the Xa that might have the type of piano sound I'm looking for? Would it be worth trying to sample the ES8 into the Xa? Is the SRX-11 that good? Should I just forget the whole idea and live with the Xa paino? Lol

Thanks,

Mike

Get the SRX-11 - I hated it at first, but now i love it !
(though this is just might opinion)
dont let Dansgold see this post, he will start ranting again! lol

I have the Motif ES7 and Roland Fantom X8
Both Pianos are different, they both suit certain material, whether Original or covers...

it`s all about what you like buddy

The SRX-11 is a big improvement over the stock Xa pianos. For that matter the SRX-02 is an improvement too, but not as good as the SRX-11.

The SRX-11 isn't perfect, but neither is the Mo-ES pianos. It's centainly as good a quality as the Motif.

Beyond that it's a matter of taste, and what you become accustomed to.

Sounds like you need to try the SRX-11. As this point, it's the best piano you can put into the Fantom-S/X/Xa.

Sample libraries (Ksounds, Coakley, etc) are very difficult to port over the Fantom format because of it's file system and multi-sample limitations.

Thanks, I'll check out the SRX-11. I tried the SRX-02 and didn't like it at all. Anybody have a link for an audio demo online until I can get my hands on the real thing?

Go to: http://www.rolandus.com/Multimedia/Flas ... _demo.html
and "drop" the card in the upper left corner of the keyboard.

No rant, just the observation that this topic has been discussed to death several times already.

I wonder why this forum has a "Search" feature, as it seems no one can be bothered to use it.

FYI, I do try to search forums first. However many times the results are close, but not exactly what I'm looking to find. It can also be a time saver to get quick response and not have to search dozens or even hundreds or posts. Maybe everyone can build Apple's Spotlight technology into the search engines! :-)

Thanks again,

"he says that the ones he just did for the fantoms are his best work yet"

Where can you see that?
And how can I know which piano will fit the Fantom?

(sorry for interrupting hehe, I also want a great piano sound!)

William Coakley The Nicest Guy

Post by Waynester »

Okay - im sat at home today in England, my mobile phone rings, its William Coakley the piano sound guy in the USA!
i emailed him to ask him a few questions about his samples etc
but instead he phones me up, how cool is he?
it must have cost him a fortune!
we were on the phone for about 1 hour!
he was telling me all about his new Fantom piano sounds that will be released in the near future, these suckers are gonna blow EVERYTHING away!
he got back to me again about 2 hours later and played me the pianos over the phone, u can`t really tell until you play, but man! it was Beautiful, this guy can also play, awesome Chops!
if anyone wants to know anything about Piano samples, this is the ONLY man to speak to, he is by far the nicest genuine friendly dude i have ever spoke to, he went into great depth about creation etc, the time and effort he puts in is Phenomenal
we talked about the SRX-11 also, told him i had played it night before in my Bon Jovi Tribute, and that i liked it apart from the higher registers which have a really short cutoff!

anyway, look out for the samples soon, there will be an article in KEYBOARD magazine very soon apparently

Great sounding pianos

Post by William Coakley »

I will be happy to answer any questions you have about my pianos designed for the Fantom. I know what it's like to be disappointed with sounds you pay good money for and I know the search for quality instruments isn't easy.
