Vocal Harmonies

I,ve seen a video from the rolandus site (The inputs) where the guy has backup vocals in his FX. The vocals play along with the chords he's playing on the keys as he sings. I,ve been checking on my FX6 with version 2.0 but have found nothing.
How can this be done??

energizer1389,
I haven't seen the video, but one simple way of way of doing this would be to record the vocals to audio tracks in a sequence, play back the sequence and perform live to it. This is easily done with OS 2.0 and probably is what you saw on the video.
All he would have to do is record the vocals as audio (or assign a vocal sample to an audio track). Then select an empty track in the sequence, assign the desired patch and play along with the sequence as he sings.

Bassman,
Check "The Fantom's Inputs" video on the Rolandus site. The guy sings and in realtime the background vocals sing along with him in realtime. Its not recorded Vocals.
I,ve seen this before. A friend of mine had something I think was called a harmonizer or something like that. I tested it at home but did not like it much.
It seems uasble on live performances but don,t know how to do it on the Fantom X like the guy on the video does
Can someone help

Sorry about that, energizer1389.
I didn't realize that the harmonies were being done realtime. Guess I should check out the video!

Hi energizer1389, I just watched a video titled "Fantom-X Audio Inputs" on Rolands web page
http://www.rolandus.com/products/detail ... ageMode=15
If that is the video you are talking about, all that he does is route the mic input thru one or more of the mfx's (no big deal). All you have to do is play around with the audio input routing and mfx settings and you can do the exact same thing. Play with your Fantom and you'll be harmonizing your vocals in no time!!

I just got home and plugged in a Shure mic. I used the 2 voice pitch shifter and it does add up to two notes in adjustable intervals to the inputs. After watching the video and being at the X, I agree that is probably what he is using, even though I coulldn't get it sounding as good as the video.

Im not very sure but if you explore the video you can see that the first time he does the vocal harmony thing he is using the keys to triger chords I think cause theres no sound coming from the keyboard.
Is it possible to triger specific note as the keyboard is played using the pitchshifter????

i have been researching this using matrix control and using keyfollow as a guide... still a ways to go yet... i have duplicated a vocoder like sound but nothing authentic...

i dont know about the video, but here's a cool thing you guyz can try out to use as a harmonizer :
1). Decide what harmonies you want in your song. Ok, lets say you want a root, a 7th, a suspended 4th and a ninth in your song. Cool.
2). Goto RPS mode. Name pattern 1 as "Root Chord". Go into microsocope edit.
3). Press insert --> System Exclusive message.
These are the system exclusive messages to be sent for a root chord :
F0 41 10 00 6B 12 10 00 02 11 08 00 01 0C 48 F7
this is for the 4th semitone above from the root note.
insert another system exclusive message and enter this :
F0 41 10 00 6B 12 10 00 02 31 08 00 01 0F 25 F7
this is the 7th semitone above from the root note.
4). now lets say you want this when you press Pad 1. now, assign this to Pad 1.
5). now we want a suspended 4th. Create another pattern. name it as "Sus. 4th" and hit microedit and insert these sysEx messages :
F0 41 10 00 6B 12 10 00 02 11 08 00 01 0D 47 F7
F0 41 10 00 6B 12 10 00 02 31 08 00 01 0F 25 F7
6). Assign this pattern to the key Pad 2.
7). set trigger mode to "ONE-SHOT" and assign both the pads to a common mute group, lets say MUTE GROUP 1.
8). Now, sing something through the mic and press the PAD 1. you got the major root chord. While singing, hit PAD 2. you got the suspended 4th.
like this, you can lay out whatever chords you want and can change the harmonies.
VERY IMPORTANT : in following the above procedure make sure that the MFX 1 is set to Effects 62 and that you have your Mix IN MFX as MFX 1, because the parameters for the address bit of the sysEx message varies for each effects. so, for the purpose of this experiment, use ONLY MFX1 for mixing in.
another cool thing :
you can connect Effects in series and with three effects, you can create a helluva monster choir and also create richness by doubing a voice and shifting the fine tuning of the second voice by a few steps!!

Great tip sam
I,ll try it as soon as I get home. But I still think there is a way to make it to follow chords you play on the keys.
I sware Im going to try the email the guy on the video.

I just talked to a guy on the Roland support team and asked him about it. He told the same thing everybody said. He was using the Pitch Shifter and the chord was fixed. He said it looked like he was triggering the chords on the keys but he was not.
Sorry guys. Dissapointed me. I think I,ll go get my self a harmonizer
Theres this Keyboard from a company called "Ketron" that has a built in Harmonizer. It was a great board with credible sounds and sequencing and sampling. I didn't get it cause I didnot know or ever have heard about that company and was worried about support and warranty. But Im telling you it was right there with the Fantoms, Tritons and Motifs and a bit more. It was great for performing live. It also had arranger capabilities. It was like in X and an arranger at the same time

well, i thought about one more :
how about making a sysEx message for EACH and EVERY note on the keyboard with RPS and turning off mute groups. this way, you can raise the harmonies as you play chords, just like the harmonizer!!
