OK...need some help guys......i started making beats by just looping 4 bar tracks....say about 8 tracks....then i would mute each one and bring em back in, and i would do this and record a beat on the fly---kinda sinks when ur trying to edit it---....but then i learned RPS and Pattern modes.....

finally i combined a few tracks and made 4 or 5 patterns--now this made it easier to manipulate....here's my delema---

i just bought pro tools---i thought that i could record a pattern into protools and trim it so its a perfect loop...basically i can't get them to trim right or fit right...there is always a space between them and or not on tempo with each other....

how can i make a song up with the patterns and arrange them--what's the easiest solution to do this....can i arrane them on an audio track in Version 2.0????...is this an option......or is there a way to put them on the fantom x's sequencer without losing the tracks that i already have on them...for example...if i have 8 tracks used....can i put a song with all 5 patterns on track 12....use pattern call mode and just string them together.....but i think all the tracks will play casue they cant be muted or else the patterns won't play...i dunno...hope i didnt confuse anyone...if so i'll try to explain it differently.........help please...lol

If you have your breaks and mutes programmed into the patterns (either by manual editing, or recording the automation), you should be able to do the pattern call > song mode method and get good results. On top of that, I'd take the extra time and dedicate each audio track in Pro Tools to a specific instrument of your beat, so that you can get a more effective mix and even play around with some plug-ins if you're inspired to...

also, when you do pattern calling...it doesn't really matter what track you call the patterns to. Try to think of each instrument as its own channel, rather than its own track...all of your mutes and things are recorded to the CHANNEL in RPS/Pattern mode, so you don't have to worry about any tracks not doing exactly what they did in the pattern.

how bout this question.........for example.....

i have snare on track 1
kick on track 2
high hat on track 3
bassline track 4
melody track 5

now in a pattern i want to make a break....i only want the kick (2), bassline (4), and melody (5) to play for the first two bars (4-bar loop) and i want to bring in all the rest of the tracks for the last two bars.........whats the easiest way to record a pattern to do this..........do i mix all 5 tracks onto a pattern....then go into TRACK EDIT---edit that pattern and delete out track 1 and 3 for the first two bars ???? is this the way you guys do it??

Yes. You can do what you are asking but be aware of the fact that when you copy your tracks to a pattern and want to delete bars, you will be erasing from a Part.

Copy your tracks to a Pattern.

Go to Pattern Mode and select your Pattern.

Go to Track Edit and select Erase.

Select the proper Channel/Part (which by default corresponds to the original Track number).

Erase the number of bars/measures that you want to and you are good to go.

Should work fine.

i tried this and it worked fine...it DID NOT erase the data in the ORIGINAL part....it just erased it from the pattern i was working with...thanks to you all for your replies!
