Extracting Drum Kit for recording.

Post by philio »

Here is my problem.

I recorded drum tracks using a kit and now want to extract the kick to different tracks for recording purposes. The drum track is on 14 and I want to extract the Kick to track 15. The kick midi note is C2. They all are on channel 10.

I successfully extracted the note to a different track but when I solo the track it stills play the other parts of the kit. If I change the channel to the extracted note to channel 15, the kick will not play and the other parts will.

How can I have the kick to play by itself without the other parts?
On my keyboard, I have the drum kick without the kick to play on PAT (output 1 &2) and have my Kick set to play out of the individual track 3. Please help.

MIDI tracks or Audio tracks

Please describe with more detail the steps you made.

You gotta Solo that part with the kick on it so you can hear it independently of the others. Also make sure you have the same kit selected for each part you space you loop out on.

Hope this helps.

The drum kit as whole is on channel 10. If you change kick note's channel, say to 9, it will play whatever patch is on channel 9. Also, if you extract different keys to different tracks, they all will still be on channel 10, and if you mute it in MIXER, all sounds will go off, no matter what tracks they are on.

To solo the kick, just use the mute switches on sequencer tracks.

philio,

I just extracted a kick drum(C2) from track 10 to track 15 on my X6. Now track 15 only has a kick drum on it, and nothing else. I believe that you are trying to accomplish the same type of operation, although with different tracks. I do this quite a bit so that I have better control over my mix when I send it to my Tascam 2488. Anyway, here's how you do it:

My drum track is recorded on track 10.

Select Song Edit>Track Edit>Extract

Select Track 10, Measure=1 for All, Channel 10, Choose your destination track(Track 15 for our example)

Mode=replace, Status=note, Range Min/Max=C2

Press F8 to execute.

Select Song Edit>Track Edit>Change Channel

Select track 15, Measure=1 for All, Status=note
Range Min/Max=C2
Src Channel=Channel 10
Dest. Channel= Channel 15

Press F8 to execute.

You should now hear only the kick drum on Track 15. To be sure, mute all other tracks and play only Track 15.

You can go to Track Edit>Erase and erase the kick out of track 10 if you wish, and you will have your kick only on Track 15.

Should work fine. Just did it. Let me know if this is not what you are looking to do, or if it works for you.

Thank you. I nice search of the forum and your answer has saved me a ton of time. Thank you very much.

I am importing some MIDI files for use and wanted more control of the mix as well. This is perfect.
